FREWSBURG — A 7-0 run inside the final minute of the game allowed Frewsburg to escape with a 63-59 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 East boys basketball victory over Gowanda on Friday night at Frewsburg Middle/High School.

The Panthers (9-9, 4-7), who trailed 34-15 at halftime, got back in the game with a 26-15 third quarter when Trelin Warrior scored 12 of his team-high 25 points.

Gowanda eventually tied the game at 56-all late before Gavin Smith — who scored a game-high 33 points for the Bears (11-8, 9-2) — hit a pair of free throws. Mason Eckman followed with a 3-pointer to make it a five-point game and Smith scored inside to make it 63-56 before Quentin Centner hit a fairly meaningless 3-pointer just before the final buzzer.

Smith had 13 rebounds, three steals and three assists; Kael Collver had seven rebounds, six steals and six blocked shots; and Garrett Brink had eight rebounds and three assists for Frewsburg.

Centner and Logan Ruff had 12 points apiece for the Panthers.
