Sacilowski, Hilliker, Calph tie for Travel League lead
RUSSELL, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League was able to kick off the 2024 season much earlier than expected, thanks to rare playable winter conditions.
The Feb. 7 event, held at Cable Hollow Golf Course, is now the second earliest calendar-year event in league history.
There was a three-way tie for low score between Tom Sacilowski, Josh Hilliker and Robert Calph at 83. After a two-hole tiebreaker, Calph was declared the overall winner. Calph is now tied with Al Etzel for second most all-time victories with 61 apiece. By tieing for the low score, Hilliker earned his 24th career victory (10th place all-time), and Sacilowski, last season’s overall points champion, earned his first career victory. Ed Tofil finished a stroke behind the winners with 84.
Sacilowski led the front nine with 40 and Hilliker led the back nine with 38. The B Flight winner was Jeff Nelson. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Dave Franklin.
