Former Steeler Dobek wins Two Nations Prep title
Submitted Photo Former Dunkirk-Fredonia Steeler Colby Dobek is pictured with his parents after his prep school, The Hill, won the Two Nations Prep Hockey League Championship.
Colby Dobek made the choice early on career to pursue hockey at the highest level possible. At a young age he left to play hockey in the Southern Canadian Travel Association, playing against some of the top hockey players in the country at the 2005 age group.
As he progressed and realized how important athletics and academics were, he made the transition to Prep hockey his junior year and left Dunkirk High School to pursue his hockey and academic ambitions.
The Hill is a top prep school in the country located just outside of Philadelphia. The Hill boys hockey team has been a part of NEPSAC for more than 55 years as an associate member of the New England Prep School Ice Hockey Association. In addition, Hill is a founding member of the Two Nations Prep Hockey League, a collaboration of long-standing NEPSAC-affiliate schools from both the United States and Canada.
Dobek had an outstanding season playing on the top lines and power-play units. He contributed 19 goals and 20 assists in the 35 games he played.
The season for the Blues was up and down. Battling injuries and playing many of the top 10 teams in the New England Prep league and Canadian Prep can be a daunting task. The Hill Blues were able to get healthy and put together a great run at the end of the season, winning the Two Nations Prep League. Dobek compiled two goals and six assists in the final weekend of the season, helping his team to a championship.
In the spring Dobek will run outdoor track and field and compete in the 100 and 200 meters. He competed for the first time last season and finished second in the PAISSA championships with a time of 11.06 FAT in the 100 meters. He was unfortunately hampered by a hamstring that weekend and did not compete in the 200 meters. This spring he is returning to track, as a captain, and is looking to improve his second-place finish from last season as well as breaking the school record in the 100 meters. Dobek’s personal best race in the 100 meters is 10.99FAT.
Upon graduation from The Hill School, Dobek will look to pursue his hockey career at the Junior level and, hopefully, in the NCAA.
