Fredonia, Dunkirk girls flag football drop league openers

YORKSHIRE — The Fredonia girls flag football team traveled to Pioneer for its first Division 2 South game of the season on Wednesday and was kept off the scoreboard in a 26-0 loss.

Fredonia (1-1, 0-1) failed to reach the endzone, but defensively came up with some turnovers as both Brianna Whitfield and Rosaliz Aponte reeled in interceptions. Whitfield also defended two passes and had five flag pulls, Natalia DiPalma and Juliana Snyder both had five flag pulls. Francesca Pucci led with 10 flag pulls.

The Hillbillies are back in action on Friday against rival Dunkirk at the Orange Bowl.

MARAUDERS FALL TO HAMBURG

The Marauders entertained Hamburg in Division 2 South action at Karl Hoeppner Field and fell 46-12.

Dunkirk (0-1, 0-1) put its points on the board in the second half when Jayla Pacheco finished off a long rushing touchdown. The Marauders reached paydirt again when Molly DiCara connected with Shyla Karin through the air for a touchdown.

Dunkirk looks to turn the tide on the road against rival Fredonia this Friday at 7 p.m.
