Brocton’s Sears records 200th strikeout in loss to Wolves

CLYMER — Elli Bodamer went 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI at the plate. She also threw seven innings and gave up just five hits and four walks while striking out eight batters to lead Clymer/Sherman past Brocton 8-1 in nonleague softball action on Monday.

Clymer/Sherman (6-5, 5-5 CCAA D2 West) also received 2 RBIs from Kiera Kinal’s triple, Janelle Burchanowski hit 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Lily Martin, Alyssa Pratt and Addie Wiggers added an RBI each.

In the circle for Brocton (3-12, 1-9 CCAA D1 East), Madison Sears struck out her 200th batter in her career and finished the day with 14 punch outs. Joleena Doner went 2 for 4 and scored the only run for the Bulldogs and Zoe Spiller finished 1 for 2 with an RBI.

RED DRAGONS GET BY COUGARS

BEMUS POINT — After giving up six runs to watch its lead disappear in the sixth inning, the Maple Grove softball team responded with a pair of runs to secure the lead for good and defeated Cassadaga Valley 9-7 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West softball.

Megan McGee and Savannah Weart reached base for Maple Grove in the bottom of the sixth on singles and then Adarah Egan and Kendall Danielson drove them home with singles to regain the lead. Alex Halstrom and Lydia Darr both finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored for Maple Grove (4-10, 3-8) and Darr pitched all seven innings with two strikeouts and four walks.

Cassadaga Valley (3-14, 1-10) was led by Hailey Meyers going 2 for 3 with a 2 RBI double, Andrea Johnson had two hits including a double and Hailey Anderson finished 3 for 3. Johnson struck out four and walked five in the circle for the Cougars.

WOLVERINES HOLD OFF HORNETS

WESTFIELD — Eva Gnadzinski, Avery Smith and Tanleigh Bestine combined to give up one hit in the circle and struck out six batters as Westfield defeated Forestville 1-0 in nonleague play.

The Wolverines plated their only run in the fifth inning when Brynn Ernewein got on base with a hit and was eventually driven home by Bestine. Madyson Burgess collected multiple hits for Westfield (13-4, 9-2 CCAA D2 West) going 2 for 2.

Forestville (7-7, 4-6 CCAA D1 East) received a strong performance in the circle from Megan Gruber going all six innings and giving up just five hits and striking out 11 batters. Iris Muck collected the only hit for the Hornets.
