Capozzi, Panthers edge Maryvale 10-9
GOWANDA — The Gowanda baseball team squeaked out a 10-9 nonleague victory over Maryvale in its final tuneup for the playoffs on Thursday.
Carter Capozzi hit 3 for 4 with three runs scored for the Panthers, Seth Geiger and Logan Ruff both drove in a pair of runs, Blake Herman walked three times and scored three while Brayden Smith walked three times and scored twice. Capozzi pitched the bulk of the game, but it was Madden Lay pitching 2/3 of an inning to claim the victory for Gowanda (14-5).
Maryvale (14-6) was led by Jacob Kuciel doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs and Joseph Madden added a double.
Kuciel also struck out three batters in three innings of work.
