Fredonia unified team edges Warriors in OT

SALAMANCA — Elijah Schrantz scored 5 of his 7 points in the fourth quarter for the Fredonia unified basketball team, but none of his baskets were as big as the shot with 10 seconds left.

Schrantz hit his shot at the foul line to tie the score at 43 against Salamanca to force overtime and then the ‘Billies scored 6 points in the extra period to win 49-47 on Wednesday.

Julian Ocasio led Fredonia with 22 points and scored 8 of them in the third quarter, Austin Duliba scored 6, Diego Brielo and CJ Quiles added 4 points each, Devin Batten, Lydia LaBarr and Rylee Flanders each scored 2.

Salamanca’s Jacob Johnson-Drain led the Warriors with 18 points, but it was Kaine Whitcomb who scored all of the points in overtime and finished with 13. Salamanca also received 6 points from both John Holmes-Pierce and Gordon Sullivan, and both Ashton Smith and Michael Light added 2 points.

Fredonia is back in action on Friday when it travels to Cheektowaga.
