Fredonia’s Spangler wins CCAA tennis tourney

LAKEWOOD — Fredonia and Olean can lay claim to top tennis seeds from the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association entering the Section VI Championships.
Jackson Spangler of Fredonia captured the CCAA singles crown Friday by virtue of a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Southwestern’s Brayden Haaksma at the Lakewood YMCA.
Meanwhile, Isaac Moses and Cavan Boutillette of Olean knocked off Trey and Fletcher DeMink of Maple Grove 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 to claim the doubles crown.
Spangler advanced to the championship match by virtue of a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Alex Watkins of Southwestern, and Haaksma qualified to meet Spangler by upending Jack Sherry of Maple Grove 6-0, 6-0.
In the consolation singles match, Watkins defeated Sherry 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, Moses and Boutillette defeated Nathan Cresanti and Keegan Rishel of Maple Grove 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinal before upending the DeMinks in the championship match.
The DeMinks earned a berth in the final after they defeated Alex Ash-West and Alex Linderman of Olean 6-0, 6-1.
In the consolation doubles match, Linderman and Ash-West knocked off Cresanti and Rishel 6-2, 6-4.
All the CCAA singles players and doubles teams will now advance to the Section VI Tournament, which will be held at Orchard Park High School on May 22.
