Marauders rally back

Dunkirk flag football comes from behind to beat Trojans in playoffs

Edwin Gomez didn’t mince words.

“It was a huge comeback win,” the Dunkirk flag football coach said Monday night after the Marauders, the No. 7 seed, rallied from two touchdowns down to knock off No. 10 Southwestern 19-12 in a Section VI Division 2B prequarterfinal game.

Trailing 12-0 at halftime, Dunkirk (3-7) scored all three touchdowns after the break, including a pair by Molly Dicara. Her second TD, which came in the closing minutes, was followed by a one-point conversion by Lianna Hernandez.

“It’s the first playoff win in program history,” Gomez said. ” … I’m glad that they stuck it through and fought to the end.”

Dunkirk will travel to Iroquois today for a 7:30 quarterfinal game.
