MBCC to host qualifier for NYSGA amateur

JAMESTOWN — Moon Brook Country Club will be hosting a qualifier June 13 for the New York State Golf Association’s 2024 Men’s Amateur Championship.

Qualifiers at MBCC will join about 150 other players from around the state to compete over 72 holes of stroke play at historic Wanakah CC in Hamburg from July 9-11. Wanakah is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and has previously hosted several state championships, including the Men’s Amateur in 1981 and 1999, and most recently, the Men’s Mid-Amateur in 2018.

The NYSGA was founded in 1923 and this year’s Men’s Amateur Championship represents the 101st playing of the event. Past winners of the tournament include PGA Tour players George Burns, Jeff Sluman (at MBCC in 1978), Joey Sindelar and Dominick Bozzelli as well as many distinguished career amateurs.

For the first time in 2024, the United States Golf Association has revised it qualification criteria for the U.S. Amateur, the nation’s most prestigious amateur tournament. The winner of the 2024 NYSGA Men’s Amateur will be exempt into the 2024 U.S. Amateur. This change also impacts the NYSGA’s Women’s Amateur, Boys’ 18U Amateur and Girls’ 18U Amateur whose winners will also be exempt into the corresponding USGA tournament.

To participate in the qualifier at MBCC on June 13, players must have a USGA Handicap Index of 8.4 or less and be a member of a NYSGA member club or e-Club. Entries for the qualifier at MBCC close at noon on June 5. For more information or to enter, go to www.NYSGA.org.

Starting at $2.99/week.
