TUESDAY
SILAKOWSKI MAKES ‘BILLIES WORK FOR WIN
FREDONIA — Fredonia wrapped up a perfect Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West and regular season Tuesday with a 2-0 shutout of Southwestern.
Arianna Silakowski and the Trojans made the Hillbillies work for it.
Fredonia scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and those two runs were enough for senior ace Jordan Lucas, who threw a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts and one walk.
Lucas walked Southwestern’s Silakowski with one out in the fourth inning to lose her perfect game, but Silakowski was quickly erased on a caught stealing. The Trojans’ other three outs came on an Alexis Beckerink lineout as well as a pair of groundouts to first base.
Danielle Palisin reached on an infield single in the first inning, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Lucas to give Fredonia a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, Jaelyn Davis walked, advanced to second on a groundout, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a Callie Draggett RBI single.
The Hillbillies’ other two hits were a Bella Buckley double and a Jenna Fryberger single.
“You have to tip your cap to Southwestern because they made the plays when they had the opportunity,” Fredonia head coach Jesse Beers said. “We hit a lot of balls right at people.”
Silakowski finished with a five-hitter and struck out eight while walking one.
Both teams will now look toward the Section VI Class B1 postseason. Fredonia (17-0, 12-0) is unofficially the No. 1 seed and Southwestern (4-11, 2-10) is the possible No. 8 seed, meaning a Saturday quarterfinal could be in the near future.
“The last couple of weeks we haven’t really talked about the league, it’s been more about playoff seeding. We’ve been fortunate to win a lot of league titles,” Beers said. “League titles are nice, but we’re scratching for a blue patch and then hopefully even beyond that this year.”
MONDAY
DUNKIRK OUTDUELS

SILVER CREEK — Kassidy Donisi gave up just one hit and struck out eight as Dunkirk edged Silver Creek 1-0 in nonleague play on Monday.
Dunkirk scored the only run of the game in the third inning when Brooke Szymczak hammered a triple and on the relay throw to third was able to advance home. Donisi also hit a double for the Marauders only other hit.
Rylee Weiskerger was nearly as strong as Donisi in the circle, pitching all seven innings and striking out 15 with two hits against.
Brianna Spinuzza recorded the lone Silver Creek hit in the sixth inning.
