The second annual Jamestown New York High School Baseball Showcase is set to return to Diethrick Park in Jamestown on June 18.

Last year, this event showcased the talents of athletes from New York and Pennsylvania representing 24 local high schools. These athletes were able to participate in front of nine college baseball coaches and a professional scout. Of the athletes participating, 35% ended up on recruiting boards and several more committed or will be committing to schools from the showcase.

This event is locally owned and locally run for the athletes to get exposure.

Shane Marucci of M.C. Baseball Training decided to create an event like this from his own personal recruiting experience. A 2012 local graduate, he felt there was nothing locally to help promote the talents of local ball players. This continued to his college recruiting experience when his school’s Friday night starter, throwing close to 90 mph, said he wasn’t recruited and joined the college 45 minutes away from his high school as a walk-on.

This year, NCAA Division 1 Canisius University, Division III Fredonia State University and the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford and Jamestown Community College have committed to the showcase, as well as a scout with the Tampa Bay Rays.
