FREDONIA – There’s a tie atop the Utility League standings with 1 week left in the regular season following Tuesday golf at The Vineyards.
The duo of Chris Penfold and Jim Waite, in second place for much of the season, tied the duo of Matt Hutchinson and Mike Kurmis atop of the 15-team list. Both teams are 12 points clear of the third-place team, making them a lock to meet for the league championship on Sept. 10.
Also Tuesday, Bob Patterson shot 1-over 37 to take low-scratch honors. He also carded low-net 29 with a round that included 1 birdie and 6 pars. In addition, George Allesi shot 38 while Penfold and Waite shot 39 each on their way up the team standings. Zeke Curtin also shot 39.
Penfold was closest to the pin on No. 5 and Frank Jagoda was closest on No. 9. There were no untied holes resulting in skins.
On the previous Tuesday, Jagoda took low-scratch honors with 2-over 38, 1 stroke better than Kurmis and Waite. Jagoda’s round included a birdie on the par-3 fifth hole after a tee shot that was closest-to-the-pin overall. Bob Adams was closest on No. 9, resulting in 1 of his 6 pars. Skins were recorded by Waite (birdie on No. 2), Kurmis (eagle on No. 6), and Jim Ellman (birdie on No. 7). Four players carded low-net scores of 32: Adams, Bob Cunningham, Frank Ippolito, and John Taddio.

Robert Calph fired a 32 for low-scratch and low-handicap honors to highlight the Gene Andolina League at Vineyards Golf Course.
Other scratch scores were Bob Golubski 35, Steve Lundine 35, Jeff Nelson 35, Sam Allesi 36, Greg Catalano 36, Bill Anderson 36, Doug Grace 37, Bruce Mulkin 37, Dan Alessi 38, Bob Manning 39, Mike Willoughby 39 and Steve Dudek 39.
Other handicap scores were Lundine 33, Mulkin 33, Allesi 34, Nelson 34, David DeJoe 34, John Wiedenhofer 34, Ricky Bauza 35, Grace 35, Mike Rosario 35, Mark Gugino 35, Dave Polechetti 35, Catalano 35, Tom McTigue 35, Willoughby 35, Manning 35, Steve Dudek 35, Bob Tripp 36, Joe Bifaro 36, Jaime Galarza 36 and Anderson 36.
Lundine recorded an eagle on No. 6 for a scratch skin, while Rosario (No. 1), Lundine (No. 6) and DeJoe (No. 8) had handicap skins.
Jim Polvino (No. 5) and Wiedenhofer (No. 9) were closest to the pin.

CHAUTAUQUA — Len Culbreath dominated play with a personal-best 37 at Chautauqua’s Wednesday Night Bill Sprague Golf League.
Notable scores included Paul Silzle 40, Craig Martin 40, Scott Dearing 41, Gabe Morrell 42 and Kyle Mayer 42.
Culbreath also recorded the low net with 30. The strong play of Kyle Mayer and Gabe Morrell helped Mayville Legion remain in first place. Following Mayville Legion is Larry’s Cantina, Triple B then EMCO.
