CL/W/B jumps up in Class C rankings

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton is moving up the Class C rankings.

After beating then-No. 7 Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove 44-7 last Friday, the Eagles moved up to No. 18 in the New York State Sportswriters Association’s rankings this week. Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton will host honorable-mention Eden/North Collins this Friday night in Mayville.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove dropped to honorable mention this week. The Herd will travel to the Orange Bowl in Fredonia on Friday to take on the Hillbillies.

Salamanca is still the No. 2 team in Class C after beating Fredonia 49-7 last week. The Warriors will host winless Silver Creek/Forestville on Friday night at Veterans Memorial Park.

Southwestern is honorable mention in Class C after beating Silver Creek/Forestville 34-7 last Friday. The Trojans take on honorable-mention Portville/Cuba-Rushford on Friday in Portville.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama remains No. 2 in Class D after beating Franklinville/Ellicottville 21-6 last Friday night. The Wolfpack will host Class B No. 10 Lackawanna on Saturday afternoon in a nonleague showdown in Panama.

Franklinville/Ellicottville dropped to No. 12 in Class D after its loss to the Wolfpack. The Titans will host Randolph on Friday night in Ellicottville.

Gowanda/Pine Valley and Randolph remained honorable mentions this week. The Panthers beat Wilson 28-14, while the Cardinals beat Cattaraugus-Little Valley 45-8 last Friday night. Gowanda/Pine Valley will host Cardinal O’Hara on Friday night in Gowanda.

Jamestown received honorable mention in Class AA after losing to No. 7 Bennett 27-23 last Friday night at All-High Stadium. The Red & Green host fellow honorable-mention selection Orchard Park on Friday night at Strider Field.

Frewsburg moved up to No. 9 in the 8-man rankings after beating honorable-mention Wellsville/Genesee Valley/Belfast 30-24 last Friday night in Wellsville. The Bears host No. 7 Holley tonight.

In Class C, Newfane is No. 7 and Alden is No. 20, while Akron and Medina are honorable mentions. Section IV Waverly remains the top-ranked Class C team in the state.

In Class AA, Canisius is No. 17, Lancaster is No. 18 and St. Francis is No. 25, while Niagara Falls and St. Joe’s received honorable mentions. Cardinal Hayes of New York City’s Catholic High Schools League is still No. 1.

In Class A, Clarence is No. 13, McKinley is No. 21 and Sweet Home is No. 24, while Kenmore West, Starpoint, West Seneca West, Williamsville East and Williamsville North all received honorable mention. Section VIII Garden City and Section I Somers are tied at No. 1.

Pioneer is No. 7, Health Sciences/Buffalo Academy of Science/Global Concepts is No. 19 and Maryvale is No. 20, while Depew, Grand Island, Iroquois, South Park and Springville all received honorable mention in Class B. Section IV Maine-Endwell is No. 1.

Section IV Tioga remains the No. 1 team in Class D and Section V Pembroke is still No. 1 in 8-man.

BOYS SOCCER

Randolph remains No. 3 in the Class C rankings after a pair of wins last week, but the Cardinals should expect to fall in next week’s rankings after losing to Ellicottville on Wednesday night. Randolph closes this week with a trip to Southwestern on Saturday evening.

Southwestern moved up a spot to No. 19 in the Class B rankings with victories over Jamestown, Allegany-Limestone and Ellicottville last week. The Trojans have added wins over Dunkirk and Olean to open this week, and will close the week with Saturday’s game against Randolph.

Westfield/Brocton entered the Class C rankings at No. 16 with wins over Chautauqua Lake, Jamestown and Silver Creek/Forestville last week, but may fall out again next week following a loss to Maple Grove on Monday.

Ellicottville is No. 15 in Class D after going 1-2-0 last week with losses to Portville and Southwestern, coupled with a win over Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley. The Eagles have beaten Pine Valley/Gowanda and Randolph this week.

Lancaster is No. 5 in Class AAA where Section XI Brentwood is No. 1.

In Class AA, Clarence is No. 17, while Section XI Smithtown West is No. 1.

Section V Brockport is No. 1 in Class A, while Grand Island is No. 3, Williamsville East is No. 6 and Lewiston-Porter is No. 16.

Lafayette is No. 5 and East Aurora is No. 7 in Class B where Section II Mechanicville is No. 1.

Section IX Rhinebeck is No. 1 in Class C, while Wilson is No. 12 and Allegany-Limestone is No. 15.

Section III Sackets Harbor is No. 1 in Class D.

GIRLS SOCCER

Frewsburg is ranked No. 5 in Class C after wins over Chautauqua Lake, Dunkirk and Southwestern last week. The Bears beat Silver Creek/Forestville on Tuesday night and will host Westfield/Brocton on Saturday.

Ellicottville is No. 6 in Class D after beating Cattaraugus-Little Valley last Tuesday, but losing to Portville and Fredonia later in the week. The Eagles also lost to Randolph this Monday, but beat Pine Valley/Gowanda on Tuesday.

In Class AAA, Lancaster is No. 18 and Section XI Ward Melville is No. 1.

Clarence is No. 8, Lockport is No. 14 and Niagara Wheatfield is No. 20 in Class AA where Section I Albertus Magnus is No. 1.

Section I Rye is No. 1 in Class A, while Lewiston-Porter is No. 9, Williamsville South is No. 16 and City Honors is No. 20.

Allegany-Limestone is No. 4 in Class B, Nichols is No. 10 and Akron is No. 17, while Section III Marcellus is No. 1.

Section II Stillwater is No. 1, St. Mary’s of Lancaster is No. 2 and Portville is No. 13 in Class C.

Section V Keshequa is No. 1 in Class D.
