Hilliker reaches two milestones on Travel League
CHAUTAUQUA — Josh Hilliker reached two milestones previously regarded as unattainable in the Wednesday Travel League.
After shooting a new league course record 71 at Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course, Hilliker reached both 20 tour wins and went over 1,000 points for the season. He broke the previous league course record of 72, held by Wayne Stoughton. Hilliker led the front nine with 37 and the back nine with a 3-under par 34.
Ed Tofil finished second with 79 and Frank Jagoda was third with 81. In the B Flight, Dave Criscione won on a tiebreaker over Jeff Marsowicz. In the C Flight, Tom Destro won on a tiebreaker over his brother, Tony Destro, and Dave Franklin. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award, in his league debut, was Aidan Hilliker.
Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Josh Hilliker (No. 5), Jagoda (Nos. 7 and 11) and Dave Wallace (No. 8); B Flight — Bob Kujawa (No. 3), Tom Sacilowski (Nos. 4 and 16), Marsowicz (Nos. 8 and 17), and Tim Walawender (No. 12); C Flight — Tony Destro (No. 3), Aidan Hilliker (No. 6), Tom Destro (Nos. 9 and 13), Lenny Leszkowicz (No. 12) and Franklin (No. 15).
Closest to the pin were: Sacilowski (No. 4), Marsowicz (No. 6), Josh Hilliker (No. 8), Franklin (No. 12) and Jagoda (No. 15). Winners of the Steeplechase were: Josh Hilliker (A Flight), Mike Willoughby (B) and Franklin (C).
Top point winners were: Marsowicz and Franklin (44 apiece), Josh Hilliker (32), and Jagoda, Wallace and Sacilowski (24 apiece). Season points leaders (through 31 events): 1. Hilliker (1,021), 2. This week the league returns to Chautauqua Golf Club to play its annual Halloween “Spooktacular” on the Hill Course. There will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Golfers are asked to be signed up by noon Monday.
