Senior Night features pretty closes races
SILVER CREEK — In a nonleague cross country meet, Senior Night brought out some pretty close races Monday.
On the boys side, seniors stole the show, taking two of the top three spots and four of the top 10.
The Gowanda pair of Chase Bolen and Cashis Montour went first and second with Silver Creek/Forestville’s Benjamin Bock running a close third. The 4-kilometer “short course” setup featured some fast times with all three boys breaking 15:00.
Silver Creek/Forestville seniors Trent Lack, Cody Ramirez, Josh Press and Simon White were also honored before the meet. The Gowanda boys beat Silver Creek/Forestville 18-40, but because Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Dunkirk and Randolph were incomplete, “we thought it would be fun to score the race as if it were three teams,” said Dunkirk Coach Adam Woelfle.
This led to a wild finish with the scores being Gowanda 27, Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Dunkirk/Randolph 51 and Silver Creek/Forestville 52.
The Gowanda scoring five included Brendin Diebel, Owen Farner, and Maddox Hudson.
For C-LV/D/R, it was Rhys Kelly (R), Alexander Pietras (C-LV), Nick Ashdown (R), Nolan Emborsky (C-LV) and Ryder Yerico (D).
SC/F’s top five were Bock, Lack, Nathan Cross, Caden Fote and Danny Thies.
On the girls side, Silver Creek/Forestville’s Leah Mays’ win led the Black Knights to a 19-37 victory over Gowanda, but when the C-LV/Dunkirk/Randolph “team” was added in, the race became a nail-biter. Both SC/F and C-LV/D/R each scored 33 points and it was SC/F’s tie-breaker by one place to give them the victory overall.
Scoring for Silver Creek/Forestville were Emma Golembieski, Emily Bain, Molly Shaw and Lilly Shaw with Mira Wade providing the tie-breaking win. Scoring for the C-LV/D/R team were Gracyn Rowland (R), Hanan Mohamad Narvaez (D), Kadence Durow (R), Lucy Conley (R) and Gloriana Sanchez (D). Gowanda’s 55 points were scored by Rhianna Woods, Jaylynn Elliott, Lilly Pierce, Isabell Graham and Leah Olejniczak.
