Dunkirk baseball rolls Salamanca 10-1 in D1

SALAMANCA — Dunkirk beat previously unbeaten Salamanca 10-1 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Marauders (6-1, 2-1) led 2-1 after four innings before a two-run fifth inning and a six-run seventh inning.

Josh Lemanski threw a 72-pitch complete game, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out five for Dunkirk.

Greg Orcutt had four hits, including a pair of doubles, while Paul Trippy and Davi Alvalle each added two hits in the win.

Kruz Coustenis had two hits and Payton Bradley tripled for the Warriors (7-1, 2-1).

The teams will meet again today at Al Stuhlmiller Field in Dunkirk where former coach Bill Walter and the 1988 state championship Marauders will throw out first pitches.

BRATTON STYMIES PINE VALLEY

WESTFIELD — Danny Bratton struck out 12 batters over five innings, including an immaculate second frame, and gave up just three runs on three hits and three walks to lead Westfield past Pine Valley 13-3 in Division 2 action.

Bratton also shined with his bat for the Wolverines, as he collected three hits with a home run and a double, while also driving in a run on a sacrifice fly. Mason Baum drove in two runs for Westfield in the second inning and Logan Baum drove in another in the third.

Cameron Howard took the loss on the hill for Pine Valley, throwing four innings in which he gave up six earned runs on four hits and seven walks with six strikeouts. Camryn Slade and Trent Ivett both drove in a run for the Panthers.

PANTHERS TOSS FOUR-HITTER

FRANKLINVILLE — Blake Herman, Noah Lauer and Seth Geiger combined on a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Gowanda shut out Franklinville 8-0 in Division 3 action.

Herman threw the opening four innings, allowing one hit, but he walked five while also striking out nine. By the time he left the game, Gowanda (6-2, 4-0) was up 7-0.

Herman led off the first inning with a double and Kyan Austin singled before Carter Capozzi walked to load the bases. After a strikeout, Geiger reached on an error and all three runners scored on the play.

Gowanda made it 6-0 in the third inning. Capozzi led off with a triple and scored on a one-out passed ball. After a strikeout, Drew Kota reached on an error and Brayden Smith walked before Madden Lay hit a two-run single.

Herman singled and scored on a Logan Ruff RBI single in the fourth, and Herman reached on an error and scored on an error in the sixth.

Geiger finished with three hits while Herman and Austin each had two.

Bretton Blecha doubled while Brady Tatlow, Matthew Spittler and Gannon Callahan each singled for Franklinville (1-3, 1-2).

TROJANS POUND OUT 13 HITS

LAKEWOOD — Judd Harris and Wilson Genareo each had three of Southwestern’s 13 hits, and Oscar Harris added a three-run home run as the Trojans beat Allegany-Limestone 21-6 in five innings of Division 1 action at Packard Field.

Lucas Genareo earned the win on the mound with three innings of one-hit ball, striking out seven and walking two. He also had a pair of doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored at the plate.

Judd Harris was 3 for 5 with a double, five RBIs and a run scored; Wilson Genareo was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored; George Marshall walked twice and scored twice; Alex Watkins was 2 for 3 with three runs scored; and Owen Hayes had an RBI double for Southwestern (2-1, 2-0).

Isaiah Fisher had two hits, including a double, and Collin Forrest had two singles for the Gators (3-4, 0-3).

BEARS SCORE 12 IN THIRD INNING

FREWSBURG — Tied 0-0 through two innings, Frewsburg exploded for 12 runs in the third en route to a 12-1 Division 2 victory over Maple Grove.

In the third inning, Mason Eckman hit a two-run single before the Red Dragons got two outs with a runner on third. After a walk, Cole Mazzurco hit a two-run single, Drake Beckstrom hit an RBI single, Blake Weaver hit a two-run single, Chase Haglund hit an RBI single, Maddox Sheesley hit an RBI double, Daniel Peterson hit an RBI single and Aidan Gruber hit an RBI double.

Eckman and Weaver finished with two hits apiece for the Bears (3-1, 3-0).

Gruber allowed two hits in four innings on the mound and struck out seven. Maple Grove’s lone run was unearned.

Drew Oste and Ezekiel Padd each singled for the Red Dragons (0-4, 0-3).

NORTH COLLINS PREVAILS LATE

RANDOLPH — North Collins broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run top of the seventh inning and held off Randolph in the bottom of the frame for a 5-4 Division 3 win.

Zander Miller went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs; Vince Montaldi doubled and drove in three runs; and Riley Greene and Jonathan Rice each singled for the Eagles (4-1, 3-0).

Montaldi and Lucas Demmerly combined to strike out 10 on the mound.

For the Cardinals (1-2, 0-1), David Malone was 4 for 4 with a double; Bryson Pitts and Gavin Senn each singled; and Senn and Kevin McElwain combined for six strikeouts on the mound.

CURTIS DOMINATES FOR FALCONER

FALCONER — Gavin Curtis was dominant on the hill, ringing up 14 strikeouts in Falconer’s 11-2 Division 3 victory over Ellicottville.

Curtis allowed just one hit and two runs while walking just two.

The Golden Falcons (3-0, 2-0) scored eight runs in the fifth inning. Isaiah Washington drew a bases-loaded walk, Chase Bianco hit an RBI single, Erik Stenstrom hit a two-run double, Logan Johnson drew a bases-loaded walk and Anthony Wood hit an RBI single.

Parker John hit an RBI single in the first for Ellicottville (1-3, 0-2) and Curtis answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

The Eagles regained the lead in the top of the second, but Bianco plated a run with a fielder’s choice and Stenstrom hit an RBI single in the bottom of the frame to give the Golden Falcons the lead.

Cameron Mendell allowed seven runs (three earned) and three hits while walking six and striking out six on the mound for Ellicottville.
