Several local players named to all-state teams

Frewsburg achieved the ultimate team goal in March when the Bears won a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C girls basketball championship.

Individual honors continued to roll in Monday.

Sophomore Jadyn Trocki was named the Class C Player of the Year while three other Bears received all-state accolades from the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Jadyn Trocki was named a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 co-Player of the Year after averaging 17.5 points, 6.3 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game.

Frewsburg senior Ava Jimerson was named to the second team, senior Teghan Trocki was named to the fourth team and junior Abery Harvey was named to the 10th team.

Jimerson averaged 14.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game; Teghan Trocki averaged 11.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game; and Harvey averaged 9.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

Randolph sophomore Skylar Herington was named to the Class C first team after averaging 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists per game en route to sharing CCAA Division 3 POY honors with Jadyn Trocki. Cardinals senior Quinn Pence was named to the fifth team after averaging 10.0 points, 6.8 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game.

Cassadaga Valley also had a pair of players named to Class C teams. Senior Emiley Anderson was named to the sixth team after averaging 21.2 points, 5.0 steals, 4.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while fellow senior Aliyah Hopkins was named to the 10th team after averaging 14.5 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.4 assists and 2.0 blocked shots per game.

In Class D, Section VI champion Sherman had three players: Kelsey Wagner, Emmersen Crawford and Teagan Gratto, named to all-state teams.

Wagner, a senior, was named to the second team after averaging 14.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.8 steals per game. Crawford, a freshman, was named to the sixth team after averaging 11.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 2.3 assists per game. Gratto, another senior, received honorable mention.

Section VI runnerup Panama had two players receive recognition. Junior Kiera Loberg was named to the seventh team after averaging 12.9 points, 3.2 steals, 3.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Senior Kaitlyn Horton was named to the eighth team after averaging 12.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

Pine Valley senior Danielle West, who averaged 14.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 3.0 assists per game, and Forestville junior Carilene Sliwa, who averaged 22.9 points, 7.0 steals, 5.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, received honorable mention. LaFargeville senior Emeline Barton was the Class D Player of the Year.

Six local players received recognition in Class B.

Salamanca junior Leilene McComber (12.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.7 spg) was named to the third team and her junior teammate Makenzie Crouse (7.4 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.7 bpg, 2.2 spg) received honorable mention.

Southwestern seventh-grader Gianna Sirianni (16.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.7 apg, 2.1 spg), was named to the fourth team and senior teammate Ellie Pearson (11.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.6 apg, 2.6 spg) received honorable mention.

Falconer senior Augustine Krenzer (11.1 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 2.3 apg, 2.0 spg) was named to the 10th team.

Fredonia senior Piper Walnicki (10.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg) received honorable mention.

Trocki’s honor is the latest in a long list of Section VI and area Player of the Year honors. Most recently, Hamburg’s Clara Strack was the Class A Player of the Year in 2023. Panama’s Natalie Angeletti was the Class D Player of the Year and Williamsville South’s Amari DeBarry was the Class A honoree in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. Olean’s Sara Pfeiffer was the Class B Player of the Year and Franklinville’s Dani Haskell was the Class D honoree in 2018 and 2019. Randolph’s Mckenna Maycock was a Class C co-Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015.

Other Section VI players recognized were: Newfane senior Anna Chunco (fourth team), Wilson junior Bella Thrush (12th team), Akron freshman Abby Gerstung (12th team) and Health Sciences senior Noora Alkaldi (honorable mention). Chenango Forks junior Maggie Warpus was named the Class B Player of the Year.

Large-school all-state teams for Class AAA, Class AA and Class A will be announced Thursday afternoon.
