Marauders clinch share of D1 baseball title

ALLEGANY — Henry Leone hit a bases clearing three-run double in the top of the seventh inning as Dunkirk pulled away from Allegany-Limestone 11-6 to claim at least a share of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball title on Friday.

The Marauders fended off an Allegany-Limestone comeback as they saw their 7-1 lead turn into 7-6 after six innings. Paul Trippy led the offense with three hits, including a double, and Greg Orcutt claimed the win on the mound.

The Gators (4-8, 1-7) were led by Tayden Margeson with two hits an RBI and Khyree Harmon with two RBIs.

Dunkirk (12-1, 8-1) has now won four straight league games including three in three days which were all on the road, to claim the league title with a Fredonia loss.

TROJANS HOLD OFF ‘BILLIES

LAKEWOOD — Wilson Genareo pitched a complete game for Southwestern and gave up four earned runs over the last two innings while striking out nine batters and scattering seven hits as Southwestern held off Fredonia for a 9-5 Division 1 victory.

Genareo helped his own cause, going 2 for 3 with three runs scored, two RBIs and a home run. Southwestern (4-5, 4-4) also had Cooper Charles hit 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Oscar Harris added a double and Alex Watkins chipped in two RBIs.

Fredonia (6-5, 4-2) was led by Colin Luce with two hits and three RBIs, Luca Gullo hit a double, and both Colin Crowell and Matt Cowan had an RBI. Cowan also pitched five innings for the ‘Billies, surrendering five earned runs on eight hits, four walks and five strikeouts.

CATANESE TOSSES NO-HITTER

MAYVILLE — Tate Catanese walked just one batter and struck out five as he tossed a no hitter for the Wolfpack in a 10-0 Division 2 victory over Chautauqua Lake.

Andrew Spiesman led the Clymer/Sherman/Panama (5-2, 5-1) offense with a pair of doubles and an RBI, Bryce Hinsdale had a double and an RBI, and Gavin Burchanowski was 1 for 3 with a double.

Chautauqua Lake (4-6, 3-4) went with Cayden Blackman on the bump and he pitched 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout in the loss.

BULLDOGS ROLL COUGARS

BROCTON — Anthony Gatto pitched six innings and gave up just four hits and one earned run while striking out nine in Brocton’s 12-1 Division 2 win over Cassadaga Valley.

Jeremy Weisner was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs (7-3, 5-1), Chris Furman was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a double and Gatto finished 2 for 2 with three runs and an RBI. Erik Pril relieved Gatto for one inning with two strikeouts and drove in a run.

Logan Hayward was the losing pitcher for Cassadaga Valley (1-7, 1-6).

BEARS ROLL MAPLE GROVE

BEMUS POINT — Mason Eckman smacked two doubles, scored two runs and drove in two more as Frewsburg rolled Maple Grove 16-3 in Division 2 action.

Chase Haglund added two more doubles for Frewsburg (9-1, 8-0) with an RBI and three runs scored, Gavin Weaver went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a double, Cole Mazzurco ended 3 for 4 with five RBIs and Maddox Sheesley was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Eckman was the winning pitcher, throwing four of the six innings with eight strikeouts and one earned run on two hits.

Maple Grove (2-6, 2-5) was led by Zach Cornell with two RBIs and Jake Reinhardt was 2 for 3.

GOWANDA DOWNS CARDS IN 5

RANDOLPH — Logan Ruff went 3 for 3 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored to lead Gowanda past Randolph 12-0 in five innings of Division 3 action.

Blake Herman was 2 for 2 with a home run and a pair of RBIs while scoring four runs for Gowanda (12-2, 10-0). Drew Kota went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Kyan Austin added another RBI.

Seth Geiger earned the win on the mound with four strikeouts over four innings. He allowed three hits.

Patrick Braley was 1 for 1 for Randolph (2-8, 1-7).

RED & GREEN WALK OFF

JAMESTOWN — Trailing by a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jamestown got its bats going with runners in scoring position to steal a nonleauge victory against West Seneca East 5-4.

Down 4-2, Karson Milne, Gavin Maggio and Alex Alvira reached base by walk-single-walk and then the Red & Green got to work. A passed ball scored Milne and then Carter Rizzuto sacrificed home the tying run.

Then Jamestown reloaded with an Adam Kubera single, which was followed by an intentional walk to Julian Jackson. With the bases loaded again, it was Blake Smith Jr. connecting on an infield single that scored Alvira for the walk-off victory at Diethrick Park.

Ryan Engquist kept the Red & Green (2-10) in the game with a strong performance on the bump, going six innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, issuing three walks and striking out a pair. The win went to Kyle Falkowski, who worked the final inning and struck out one.

West Seneca East (2-10) was led by Brady Murdoch with two hits and Tate Stones doubled.
