DUNKIRK — A year ago the Dunkirk baseball team reached the sectional final as a 7-seed and this year the Marauders were billed as the No. 3 team in the Section VI Class A2 playoffs.

The Marauders certainly lived up to the seeding against No. 6 Albion in the quarterfinals as they secured a 13-0 win in five innings while just giving up one hit.

Senior ace Greg Orcutt gave up just one hit and a walk while striking out six batters in his four innings of work.

“Greg was good from the start and in total control,” Dunkirk head coach Frank Jagoda said. “Defensively, Tony Piede made a great catch in right field and Dylan Bankoski made the catch of the game on a deep, deep ball to left center. Good pitching, good defense and good hitting, what more could you ask for?”

While Orcutt needed very little run support, his teammates still gave it to him with Josh Lemanski leading the charge hitting 2 for 4 with a 3-run home run and 3 RBIs on the day. Henry Leone hit 3 for 3 with two doubles and 2 RBIs, Gabe Valentine hit 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI, Thomas Shaffer hit a double and 2 RBIs and Anthony Cosme added a double.

Dunkirk (17-3) is back in action with a familiar opponent on Tuesday at No. 2 Maryvale in the semifinals. Last season, the Flyers defeated the Marauders 9-4 in the sectional final.

TROJANS NO HIT TONAWANDA

LAKEWOOD — Lucas Genareo made it an easy day for Southwestern in the Class B prequarterfinals as he pitched a five-inning no hitter with seven strikeouts to send the Trojans past Tonawanda 10-0 at Packard Field.

Southwestern got all the offense it needed in the first inning when Judd Harris led off the game with a double and was grounded to third and a sacrifice fly from George Marshall made it 1-0. Marshall finished the day 2 for 3 with two doubles and 3 RBIs, Wilson Genareo went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored, Alex Watkins hit 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs and Lucas Genareo ended 2 for 2 with two runs scored.

Josh Balcom was the losing pitcher for No. 11 Tonawanda (4-9).
