Suffers 13-3 setback at Falconer

FALCONER — A seven-run second inning helped Falconer beat North Collins 13-3 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 baseball Wednesday.

Anthony Wood hit an RBI triple, two runs scored on Chase Bianco’s fielder’s choice and Erik Stenstrom hit an RBI double during the second-inning uprising for the Golden Falcons (6-0, 5-0).

Gavin Curtis allowed three hits and three runs (none earned) in five innings, striking out seven and walking two on the mound for Falconer.

Isaiah Washington, Charlie Reichenbach, Stenstrom, Logan Johnson, Wood and Austin Pfeiffer each collected a hit for the Golden Falcons. Washington drove in three runs.

Zachary Quiter drove in two runs for North Collins (5-4, 4-3). Zander Miller, Riley Green, and Quiter each had a hit.

MARAUDERS DOWN TROJANS

DUNKIRK — Henry Leone hit a grand slam during an eight-run third inning and Dunkirk beat Southwestern 10-5 in Division 1 play at Al Stuhlmiller Field.

Gabe Valentine opened the bottom of the third with a walk, Paul Trippy was hit by a pitch and Josh Lemanski walked before Greg Orcutt drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the first run of the game for the Marauders (8-1, 4-1). Bases-loaded walks to Davian Alvalle and Anthony Piede made it 3-0 before Leon’s blast to left field made it 7-0. Anthony Cosme singled and courtesy runner Jayden Neallard took second on a passed ball before Valentine hit an RBI single to make it 8-0.

Oscar Harris hit an RBI double to score George Marshall in the fourth inning for the Trojans (3-3, 3-2). In the top of the seventh, Lucas Genareo hit a two-run single, Judd Harris hit an RBI single and Marshall had an RBI groundout.

Orcutt tossed six innings of five-hit ball, allowing one run while striking out 10.

Wilson Genareo, Marshall and Judd Harris each had a pair of hits while Kyler Wojtowicz doubled for Southwestern.

BROCTON KNOCKS OFF PINE VALLEY

BROCTON — Nate Laurito, Jeremy Weisner and Anthony Gatto each had three hits as Brocton totaled 13 for the game in an 11-5 Division 2 victory over Pine Valley.

The Bulldogs trailed 4-3 in the top of the third inning before scoring six runs in their half of the frame to take a 9-4 lead.

Laurito was 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI; Weisner was 3 for 3 with two RBIs; Gatto was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and an RBI; and Chris Furman tripled and scored three runs for Brocton.

Michael Garcia struck out nine and walked three in five innings to earn the win on the mound.

Camryn Slade was 3 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Trent Ivett struck out five on the mound and went 2 for 4 with three RBIs at the plate for the Panthers (0-6, 0-5).

JAMESTOWN LOSES ON ROAD

WILLIAMSVILLE — Julian Jackson and Karson Milne combined for a strong effort on the mound, but Williamsville North scored a run in the first inning and two more in the third to post a 3-1 Erie County Interscholastic Conference Divisiion 1 win over Jamestown.

The Red & Green duo combined on a five-hitter with five strikeouts and six walks.

Jamestown’s lone run came in the fifth, highlighted by Jhensen Hernandez RBI single.

The other hits for the Red & Green were recorded by Milne, Carter Rizzuto and Blake Smith Jr.

BECKSTROM LEADS BEARS

FREWSBURG — Drake Beckstrom went 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored to lead Frewsburg past Chautauqua Lake 12-2 in Division 2 play.

Maddox Sheesley was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored; Chase Haglund tripled, drove in a run and scored twice; and Cole Mazzurco and Blake Weaver each drove in a pair of runs for the Bears (5-1, 5-0).

Aidan Gruber tossed five two-hit innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out 10 and walking four. Mason Eckman got the final three outs with a pair of strikeouts for Frewsburg.

Devin Hewes and Nate Henry each singled for the Eagles (3-4, 2-2).

HILLBILLIES EDGE PIONEER

FREDONIA — AJ Kinney struck out the final batter of the game with runners at first and third to earn the save as Fredonia beat Pioneer 7-6 in nonleague action.

Matt Cowan earned the win on the mound for the Hillbillies (3-3), striking out seven and walking four over five innings. Just one of the five runs he allowed was earned.

The Panthers led 5-0 after the top of the fourth inning before Fredonia put together a seven-run bottom of the fourth inning.

After an out to open the frame, the Hillbillies’ next seven batters reached base and scored. Andrew Cowen drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the run before Luca Gullo’s sacrifice fly to left field was dropped. Colin Luce hit an RBI single and Brady Crawford hit an RBI fielder’s choice to make it 5-4. With two outs, Colin Crowell hit a line drive and when Pioneer’s right fielder missed a shoestring catch, Fredonia’s final three runs scored.

Kinney and Ashton Putney each had singles for the Hillbillies, who stranded nine runners on base.

Kasen Jarocinski had three hits and two RBIs for Pioneer (7-2), which was ranked No. 18 in Class A this week by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

“We play them annually, but the way the schedule fell this year with Silver Creek/Forestville dropping out, our double bye fell back to back so we had a week and a half without a league game,” Fredonia head coach Tim Cowan said. “We try to put the kids in front of some tough competition. Today wasn’t the prettiest game, but it was pretty evenly matched. We’re hopeful that prepares us for the bulk of the league season.”
