GOWANDA — Chautauqua Lake’s Cayzlee Johnson put on a show in the first game of a Section VI softball playoff tripleheader Thursday evening.
Johnson went 4 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored while also tossing a three-hitter as the second-seeded Eagles beat No. 7 Portville 13-1 in a Class C quarterfinal.
Alice Scarpine went 3 for 4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored; Lucy Ulsh was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored; and Kinslee Motter tripled and scored a run for Chautauqua Lake.
The game was scoreless until Scarpine tripled and scored on Johnson’s two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.
The Eagles added three runs in the fourth inning. Cameron Mackey reached on an error and Ulsh doubled before both runners scored on an error. Scarpine later singled and scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.

Chautauqua Lake broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning that included RBI singles from Jillian Miller and Mackey as well as a two-run single from Scarpine.
Mackey was hit by a pitch and scored the final run on three wild pitches.
Johnson struck out five, walked four and hit a batter in the circle.
Portville scored its lone run in the top of the fifth inning when Emily Collins reached on an error, stole second and later scored on Bella Morales’ RBI single.
Chautauqua Lake will now host No. 6 Randolph in a 5 p.m. semifinal in Mayville.

CRAMER SHINES FOR FREDONIA
GOWANDA — Filling in for an injured Callie Draggett, Cassie Cramer stood out Thursday evening.
Cramer moved behind the plate to catch Danielle Palisin, and also went 3 for 3 with two doubles and four RBIs as No. 2 Fredonia beat No. 7 Wilson 13-1 in five innings of Class B quarterfinal action.
Palisin went 2 for 3 with a double and also tossed a three-hitter with four strikeouts. The left-hander didn’t walk a batter and the run she allowed was unearned.
Anna Delcamp was 2 for 2 while Bella Buckley was 2 for 4 for the Hillbillies.
In a three-run first inning, Buckley hit a two-out, two-run single to score Palisin and Jenna Fryberger before Cramer followed with an RBI double to plate Delcamp.
In Fredonia’s two-run second inning, Naomi Muck singled with one out and stole second before Palisin walked. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Muck scored on another wild pitch before Palisin scored on a Fryberger sacrifice fly.
The Hillbillies added three more runs in the third inning. Delcamp singled and Cramer hit a one-out RBI double. Rihanna Benner and Muck followed with walks before Palisin beat out a fielder’s choice to plate their eighth run.
In the fourth inning, Delcamp singled and Buckley reached on an error before a Cramer two-run single. After the runners advanced, Benner hit an RBI single, Leah Marsh hit into a fielder’s choice and Palisin hit an RBI double.
To end the game in the fifth, Ava Muck and Delcamp walked before pinch-runner McKenna Crawford scored on Buckley’s walk-off single.
“Cassie Cramer did a great job, stepping in during a playoff game,” Fredonia head coach Jesse Beers said. “Going 3 for 3 while being behind the dish was a standout performance on her part.”
Fredonia will host No. 6 Allegany-Limestone in a 5 p.m. Tuesday semifinal. The Hillbillies swept a doubleheader 9-0 and 5-1 on May 8 against the Gators.
RANDOLPH OUTLASTS WESTFIELD
GOWANDA — Freshman Hannah Hill hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the seventh inning as No. 6 Randolph beat No. 3 Westfield 11-9 in a wild Class C quarterfinal.
The Cardinals led 5-1 in the top of the fourth inning only to see the Wolverines answer with five runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 6-5 lead. Randolph tied the game at 6-all, Westfield took a 7-6 lead, the Cardinals took an 8-7 lead and the Wolverines took a 9-8 lead before Randolph scored three runs in the top of the last inning.
Quinn Pence went 3 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored; Hill was 3 for 4 with an RBI and four runs scored; Sadie Steward singled and drove in two runs; and Aryana Sears singled, drove in three runs and scored a run for the Cardinals.
Sydney Hotchkiss was 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored; Reagan Weingart was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored; Eva Gnadzinski was 2 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored; and Molly Burgess doubled for Westfield.
Gnadzinski gave her team a 7-6 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Sears then hit a two-run single in the top of the sixth to give the lead back to Randolph.
Weingart’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth made it 9-8 Westfield.
Pence tied the game with a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh inning. Grace Arnold-Hill walked, stole second and third, and scored on Hannah Hill’s two-out RBI single to right field. Sears later walked with the bases loaded to force in the 11th run.
Madyson Burgess was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the seventh and Hotchkiss hit a two-out double, but Arnold-Hill induced a groundout to end the game.
The Cardinals will travel to No. 2 Chautauqua Lake for a 5 p.m. Tuesday semifinal.
BARKER ELIMINATES GOWANDA
BARKER — No. 1 Barker scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and held off No. 8 Gowanda for a 3-2 Class C quarterfinal win.
Kaylee Stoll singled to open the bottom of the first inning and Madelina Pavlock walked before a passed ball and Peyton Bradley’s RBI single made it 1-0. Madyson Flint followed with an RBI groundout and Bradley scored on a passed ball to make it 3-0.
That was all the run support Flint would need in the circle. The Bulldogs pitcher tossed a five-hitter with nine strikeouts while allowing two runs and a walk.
The Panthers made it 3-1 in the fourth inning. CeCe John led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a Bella Maines RBI single.
In the Gowanda half of the fifth inning, Addison Kota and Holland Browning singled with one out before Kota scored on a fly ball to second base.
Browning was thrown out at the plate to end the inning and the Panthers didn’t get any base runners in the final two innings.
Kota and Browning were both 2 for 3 with Maines having the only other Gowanda hit. Kota tossed a three-hitter with nine strikeouts while walking six and allowing three runs (two earned).
Barker will host a 5 p.m. semifinal Tuesday against the winner of today’s quarterfinal between No. 5 Falconer and No. 4 Silver Creek.
BURCHANOWSKI HAS BIG DAY
CORRY, Pa. — Janelle Burchanowski hit a two-run home run and Elli Bodamer held No. 6 North Collins hitless until the fifth inning as No. 3 Clymer/Sherman beat the Eagles 12-0 in a Class D quarterfinal.
Burchanowski finished 3 for 5 with five RBIs and two runs scored while Kelsey Wagner hit a two-run triple for the Wolves. Bodamer tossed a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts
“The offense showed up as well and it was a good night all the way around,” Clymer/Sherman head coach Dave Bodamer said.
The Wolves jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead. Burchanowski hit an RBI single, Wagner hit her two-run triple and Caylee Pinzok hit an RBI single.
Burchanowski then homered to center field to make it 7-0 in the second inning.
In Clymer/Sherman’s five-run third inning, Harleigh Faulkner hit an RBI single, Burchanowski hit a run-scoring single and Bodamer hit an RBI single.
Mckenna Ayers allowed seven hits and walked six while striking out five for North Collins. Mya Tanis had the Eagles’ lone hit.
Clymer/Sherman will travel to No. 2 Forestville for a 5 p.m. Tuesday semifinal.
WARRIORS ELIMINATED
NORTH COLLINS — No. 9 Eden beat No. 16 Salamanca 13-1 in a Class B quarterfinal.
Jaelynn Brown, Ayla Newark and Delaney Haley each had a hit for the Warriors.
PINE VALLEY OUSTED
OLEAN — No. 4 Franklinville handed No. 5 Pine Valley a 3-1 Class D quarterfinal defeat.
Franklinville will travel to No. 1 Ellicottville for a 5 p.m. Tuesday semifinal.
