Day 1 of Section VI state qualifier complete

FALCONER — Emma Lewis captured two individual events on the first day of the Section VI Track & Field State Qualifier at Bill Race Field on the campus of Falconer High School on Friday.

The Southwestern sophomore won the 800 meters (2:13.28) and the 3,000 meters (10:21.45) in Class C, while teammate Mikayla Johnson also placed first in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet, 4 inches.

Other area first-place finishers in Class C were Ethan Verbosky of Maple Grove, who claimed the boys 800 meters (1:52.67); Kolten Rhoades of Clymer/Sherman/Panama in the discus (156-1); and Caden Inkley of Randolph in the pole vault (14-3).

The remaining top finisher among local athletes was Jorge Rivera Jr. of Jamestown, who tossed the discus 140-3 in Class A.

Other area top-five finishers among the girls were Belle Johnson of Jamestown, fifth (2:27.49), in the Class A 800 meters; Tryniti Card of Southwestern, third (2:19.31) and Solki Martin-Lacayo of Clymer/Sherman/Panama, fifth (2:24.55) in the Class C 800 meters; Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Ellyson Baglia, third (32-8) and Abbie Gawron of Silver Creek/Forestville, fifth (31-9) in the Class C shot put; and Ryanna Brady of Salamanca, fifth (11:15.10) in the 3,000 meters.

Other area top five finishers among the boys were Tyler Tellez of Jamestown, fifth (11-6) in the Class A pole vault; Donavin Brown of Southwestern, fourth (1:58.51) in the Class C 800 meters; Connor Young of Southwestern, third (20-9) in the Class C long jump; Tyler McInytre of Southwestern, second (151-7) and Walter Lukasiak of Chautauqua, third (147-0) in the Class C discus; and Nathan Bailey of Falconer, third (13-6) and Max Parmentier of Falconer, fourth (12-6) in the Class C pole vault.
