Robert Calph defends title at Pennsylvania Open
CORRY, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League held its second major of the season, the Pennsylvania Open at North Hills Golf Course.
Robert Calph successfully defended his 2024 title with the low round of 81. Tom Destro was runner-up with 84. Dave Wallace was third with 87. Calph and Tom Sacilowski each shot 42 to lead the front nine while Calph and Destro each shot 39 to lead the back nine. Calph has now won the Pennsylvania Open four times and is tied with Ed Tofil with nine total major victories, second most of all-time.
In the B Flight, Dave Franklin won a four-man tiebreaker with Ron Szach, Jack Hood and John Waterman. The low senior score was shot by Dennis Gawronski Sr. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioners Award was Don Kujawa.
Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight, Sacilowski(Nos. 2, 4), Calph (Nos. 5, 11) and Destro (No. 15); B Flight, Waterman (Nos.1, 10), Szach (No. 2), Hood (Nos. 3, 7, 11), Jim Ellman Sr. (No.9), and Franklin (No.12).
Closest to the pin were Sacilowski (No. 4), Dan Cassidy (No. 7), Calph (No. 11) and Don Kujawa (No. 15). Winners of the steeplechase were Calph (A Flight) and Bob Kujawa (B Flight). Winners of the par-3 contest were Calph (A) and Don Kujawa (B).
