Tofil shoots 77 at Scenice Heights GC

WATTSBURG, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League played Scenic Heights Golf Course under rainy and windy conditions.

Ed Tofil delivered a commanding win, posting the low round of 77. Bob North finished second with 84 and Dave Wallace was third with 85. Tofil led both the front (38) and back (39) nines en route to his fourth tour win of the season.

In the B Flight, Phil Hopkins was the winner after a tiebreaker with Gary Haase and Tom Destro. The low senior golfer was Tony Destro. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioners Award was Tim Walawender.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight, Tofil (Nos. 2, 3, 17) and Wallace (Nos. 11, 15); B Flight, Mike Willoughby (No. 2), Lenny Leszkowicz (Nos. 3, 16), Hopkins (No. 5), Dave Franklin (No. 7), Tom Destro (Nos. 9, 12), Pete Pinkoski (No. 11) and Bob Kujawa (No. 15).

Closest to the pin were North (No. 1), Tofil (No. 3), Kujawa (No. 14) and Wallace (No. 18). Winners of the Steeplechase were John Waterman in A Flight and Tom Destro in B Flight.

Top point winners were Tofil (46), Wallace and Tom Destro (23 apiece), and Kujawa (14). Season points leaders (through six events) are 1. Tofil (168), 2. Leszkowicz (83), 3. Bob Thompson (73), 4. Franklin (69), 5. Tom Destro (59), 6. Jeff Nelson and Tom Sacilowski (51 each), 8. Pat Weaver and Joe Michalski (50 apiece) and 10. Haase (45). Dave Franklin moved into a tie for third place on the all-time points list with Pat Weaver (4,215).

This week the league plays Cardinal Hills in Randolph. The first tee time is at 10 a.m.
