GAME 9

PRICE, UTAH 7, CENTENNIAL, COLO. 1

JAMESTOWN — With a bye on the opening day of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series, Price, Utah knew it would face the pool-play gauntlet of four games in four days.

After Monday’s action, the Pacific Southwest Region champions are now 2-0 and tied atop the American Division.

Nathan Tatton and Alex Martinez combined on a one-hitter as Price beat Centennial, Colorado 7-1 in Game 9 at Diethrick Park.

Tatton, who was named the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for his team, threw the opening five no-hit innings, with just one strikeout while walking four.

The only run the right-hander allowed came in the second inning when Centennial’s George Sheers reached on an error, Thomas Atkins walked, Ryland Weber reached on an error and Pavel Whittal drew a bases-loaded walk to plate courtesy runner Brady Guenther with the Midwest Plains Region champion’s only run of the game.

That run made it a 2-1 game, but Price tacked on two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to put the game away.

Edward Fox, Centennial’s Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game, broke up the no-hit bid with two outs in the seventh inning when he doubled just off the glove of a diving Jacen Cowley in right field.

But after a walk, Martinez induced a lineout to his shortstop to end the game.

In the fifth, Martinez and Bosone drew one-out walks before scoring on Rhoten’s two-run double.

In the sixth, Jacen Urbanik singled and courtesy runner Callan Donaldson later scored when Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk. Later, with two outs, Bosone hit a two-run single to plate the final runs.

Centennial (1-1) will take on Stevens Point, Wisconsin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday while Price will take on Eagle Pass, Texas (2-0) for first place in the American Division at 4:30 p.m.

BROOMALL-NEWTOWN, PA. 4, PORT ANGELES, WASH. 1

Broomall-Newtown, Pennsylvania scored three runs in the third inning and that turned out to be plenty of support for three of its pitchers in a 4-1 National Division win over Port Angeles, Washington in Game 10 of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series on Monday afternoon at Diethrick Park.

Nate DeBellis, James Hogan and Jackson Baylor combined on a two-hitter with eight strikeouts while walking three and hitting two batters. DeBellis earned the win over the first four innings and Baylor picked up the save with a shutout seventh inning during which he pitched around a hit batter and an error.

The Middle Atlantic Region champions took control of the game as the first three batters of the second inning reached base. Hogan walked, Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game Christopher DiCrecchio singled and Ryan Raftovich walked to load the bases before Hogan scored on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, David Jackson walked to reload the bases. With two outs, DeBellis and Wyatt Rickards drew two more bases-loaded walks to make it 3-0.

Broomall-Newtown tacked on its final run in the fourth inning. Daniel Quinn walked with two outs, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Rickards.

Carson Greenstreet, the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for Port Angeles, drove in his team’s only run with an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Gavin Doyle was the most effective pitcher for the Pacific Northwest Region champions, tossing 3 1/ 3 innings of one-run relief, striking out one and walking four.

Port Angeles (0-2) will take on Australia in the 7 p.m. game Tuesday while Broomall-Newtown (2-1) will have its off day.

GAME 11

STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT 4, AUSTRALIA 0

Stamford, Connecticut plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning against Australia in the National Division and that’s all that was necessary as it won the pitcher’s duel 4-0 and improved to 2-0.

Stamford started the game with a single by Ben Henderson, and while he didn’t score, it was his performance that sparked the New England champions to victory. The following three batters reached base and gave an eventual 2-0 lead as Henderson returned to the bump.

Adding to his 2-for-2 performance at the plate with an RBI, Henderson limited Australia (0-3) to three hits and worked a shutout with the save courtesy of Jack Patterson. Henderson was then named the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game.

After getting tagged early, Australia starting pitcher Jack Bowden looked like he might have a short day on the hill, but soon settled in to give his squad a chance. Bowden also connected for his squad’s first hit and was named the team’s Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game.

Australia put runners in scoring position three straight innings, but great fielding and strong pitching from Henderson maintained the shutout.

The best opportunity came in the top of the fourth when Xander Forbes reached third for Australia, but Stamford third baseman Ryder Palange kept him from getting home on a fielder’s choice with a dart to home plate and Brandon Jones placed the tag.

Stamford will play Tallahassee, Florida in a battle of the National Division unbeaten teams this morning at 11., while Australia seeks its first win against Port Angeles, Washington at 7 p.m. in

GAME 12

STEVENS POINT 10, JAMESTOWN 0

Jamestown started fast in Monday’s nightcap of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series, but it was Stevens Point, Wisconsin with the last laugh as it plated nine runs in the bottom of the fourth for an eventual 10-0 victory via mercy rule and its first victory of the tournament.

The hosts started early, getting runners on second and third with a two-out double by Luca Mistretta in the top of the first, putting the pressure on Stevens Point (1-2) pitcher Keegan Krull. Unfortunately for Jamestown (0-3), that towering double became the team’s only hit as Krull worked his way out of the inning and continued nearly flawlessly the remaining four innings.

Jamestown pitcher Logan Simpson did well with the Stevens Point lineup through the first three innings, giving up just one run on a play at the plate in which David Armon knocked the ball free sliding home.

Once the middle of the Stevens Point lineup saw Simpson for a second time is when things began to unravel for the hosts as the Ohio Valley champions hit through the lineup and scored nine runs.

The explosive inning was highlighted by a towering shot from Armon all the way to the warning track in right field which landed for an RBI triple and he proceeded to score on an error on the relay throw.

Jamestown utilized three pitchers in the bottom of the fourth and each one had struggles finding the strike zone leading to an eventual mercy rule victory for Stevens Point.

Armon earned the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game after scoring twice and going 2 for 2 with an RBI triple for the winners.

Jamestown received its lone hit from Mistretta and he was awarded the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game.

LATE SUNDAY

GAME 7

BROOMALL-NEWTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA 9, AUSTRALIA 6

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Down to its final out, Broomall-Newtown, Pennsylvania was about to fall to 0-2 Sunday evening at the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series.

Ryan Raftovich had other ideas.

The Mid-Atlantic Region champion’s No. 6 hitter hit an RBI double to tie the game and David Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the go-ahead run as Broomall-Newtown rallied for a 9-6 win over Australia in a game that was slowed by a pair of rain delays at Diethrick Park.

Daniel Quinn was named the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for Broomall-Newtown after doing yeoman’s work out of the bullpen. The left-hander came in trailing 5-2, and after allowing an inherited runner to score on an error, shut out the International representative with 3 2/3 innings of four-hit, five-strikeout work.

Broomall-Newtown’s offense was relatively quiet against Australia starter Kyler Phagan, but was able to piece together its final seven runs against four relievers. Matthew Schumacher got Broomall-Newtown’s six-run seventh inning started with a single and after Cole Patterson walked, the pair executed a double-steal. James Hogan followed with an RBI single, but Patterson was thrown out when he slipped rounding third base and couldn’t make it back to the bag. After a balk sent Hogan to second base, a popup to first base put Australia on the brink of picking up its first victory of the tournament.

But that’s when Raftovich tied the game with his two-out double. A walk to Michael Travaglini and a single by Quinn loaded the bases before Jackson’s bases-loaded walk. Australia’s fifth reliever of the day entered and was greeted by Jacob Forbes’ two-run single before a strikeout ended the uprising.

Quinn allowed a two-out double to Phagan in the bottom of the seventh inning, but he was caught stealing to end the game when he tried to take third on a ball in the dirt.

Levi Lawes, who hit a pair of two-run doubles, was named the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for Australia.

GAME 8

EAGLE PASS, TEXAS 14, JAMESTOWN 0

Eagle Pass, Texas jumped on host Jamestown as its first six batters of the game scored en route to a 14-0 victory to move to 2-0 in the American Division.

Sunday night’s game didn’t start until after 9:30 p.m. and ended just before midnight.

The late start didn’t bother the Southwest Region champions, who saw their first six batters reach base and score.

Jamestown’s starter lasted just 20 pitches. Julian Palacios led off with a single, Caleb Jimenez walked and Leandro Mares hit an RBI single. Walks to Julian De Hoyos and Jesus Calderon led to a pitching change for Jamestown.

The host team’s first reliever was greeted by Mason Villarreal’s ringing two-run triple to left field and Joshua Montes followed with an RBI single to make it 6-0.

Eagle Pass added a pair of runs in the second inning when Jimenez and Mares singled ahead of a two-run single from De Hoyos.

De Hoyos added a two-run double in the fourth inning and Palacio had an RBI double in the fifth inning as Eagle Pass won via the mercy rule.

Calderon was named the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for Eagle Pass after tossing three no-hit innings with four strikeouts and four walks on the mound. He added a walk and a single at the plate.

The only blip on the radar for Eagle Pass was reliever Eli Moreno allowing his team’s first hit of the tournament, a fourth-inning single to Josh Cowan, who was named the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for Jamestown.

Moreno finished with four strikeouts in his two innings of work.

Starting at $3.50/week.
