JCC to celebrate 75th anniversary next Saturday

This year marks Jamestown Community College’s 75th anniversary of becoming a chartered member of the State University of New York system in 1950.

In that time, JCC produced more than 30,000 graduates, including thousands of student-athletes. The college has also seen its athletic family grow to 14 National Junior College Athletic Association sports and a pair of highly successful club teams.

“JCC athletics is at the root of what makes being a Jayhawk an exceptional experience,” said Athletic Director George Sisson. “We are one big family inside an amazing community that is Jamestown Community College. I have been involved in higher education and athletics for over 40 years; what we have here, in Jamestown, is truly special. To see our campus and athletic programs be a pillar of prestige in all of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus County is extra meaningful to me as a kid from just down the street in Gerry, New York.”

Those special moments inside the Jamestown CC athletic nest are highlighted by four swimming and diving national championships, a golf national title, and individual national crowns in swimming and wrestling, as well as hundreds of All-American honors to go along with countless regional titles and All-Region accolades. More importantly, Jamestown CC has earned hundreds of academic All-Region and All-American honors to put a stamp on the student aspect of student-athlete.

“I start to get emotional when I give myself a chance to reflect on not just what JCC has achieved in my seven years as A.D.,” Sisson said, “but what all Jayhawks have accomplished. From the last kid on the bench to an All-American, they all get to be part of something special. Once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk.”

Jamestown CC will be celebrating all that has been accomplished in athletics and academics over the last 75 years with a 75th Anniversary Fair on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where the campus is opening its doors to the entire community for a day of fun and festivities to mark this milestone occasion in its history. There will be vendors, local organizations, food trucks, a kids zone, and the Jayhawk men’s and women’s soccer teams will take the pitch for their home opener at noon (women) and 2:30 p.m. (men). The soccer teams will wear patches on their uniforms all season to commemorate the monumental occasion.

“It means a lot to me to be able to be a part of such a historic event and to be able to play for the JCC Jayhawks in this time and represent them both in the classroom and on the field,” said sophomore Amara Pacheco.

“I truly think it is an honor to represent JCC for their 75th anniversary. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a true testament to how great it is at JCC,” said sophomore Arryanna Bardo.

“It’s good we get this center stage for this celebration; I have no doubt in my mind the other boys think so, too,” added sophomore Shane Bennett.

“It’s definitely such an honor to be able to represent the school in any sense, and I’m sure all the lads feel the same way, but to be able to do it on a day like this, it’s special. Hopefully, we can get a win on the day and make it that bit more special,” said sophomore Sam Little.

While JCC soccer will be center stage for the festivities, they are one of five JCC athletic programs competing in the fall of 2025.

Starting at $3.50/week.
