Roets breaks Cassadaga Kids Triathlon record

Submitted Photo The seventh Cassadaga Kids Triathlon was held last Saturday.

Last Saturday, the Cassadaga Kids Triathlon was held from the beach in Cassadaga for its seventh year.

Eighty kids, from ages 5-15, and traveling from North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and all over New York state, came to “tri” their best at swimming, biking, and running.

Participants started the day with a 100-yard swim within the roped area of the beach, then headed out for a 3-mile bike ride around the roadways surrounding the Lower Lake, and finished up with a 1-mile run.

Post-race, all were treated to a pancake and sausage breakfast and an award ceremony.

This event is produced each year by Wilson Endurance Sports and sponsored locally by Storer’s Container Service, PEL Industrial Supply, E-Z Self Storage, King Kone of Cassadaga, Mike Frame Images and Computer Consulting, Wit’s Convenience, The Red House, and the Todd and Kathy Wickmark Family.

Two overall categories cover ages 4-9 and 10 & above. There is also a Paratriathlete category, and this year, Max Roets of Westfield broke his own course record by 13 minutes. Roets finished in a time of 42:27.

In the 4-9 age group, Theo Monacelli of Cassadaga won the boys race in 27:38 while Brooke Ronan of East Aurora won the girls race in 28:01.

In the 10 & above group, Colden Campbell of Honeoye Falls broke his own course record by nearly a minute with a time of 19:26. For the girls, Emme Campbell of Honeoye Falls set a new course record with a time of 22:34.

The winner of the Parker Morrison Sportsmanship Award was presented by its namesake, Parker Morrison, to Colden Campbell. This award was created after a 2023 incident where a racer fell on her bike and was injured. A fellow racer, Parker Morrison, stopped his race and cared for her until help arrived. Organizers were so moved by the story and the young man, that they seek out those participants each year who display a helpful attitude, and are humble and kind to all those around them.

Registration is now open for the Aug. 15, 2026, event. More information and the full list of race results can be found at www.CoachMarkWilson.com.

Starting at $3.50/week.
