WATERFORD, Pa. — Joe Michalski was the overall winner of this week’s Wednesday Travel League event, held at “The Ridge.”

Michalski and Ed Tofil tied for the low round of 80, with Michalski winning on the second tiebreaker hole. Dave Franklin and Josh Hilliker tied for third place with 82s. Michalski earned his first tour victory since 2017. Tofil, Franklin and Jeff Nelson all shot 40s to lead the front nine while Michalski led the back nine with 39.

This week’s top two point winners were 12-year-old Carter Crabtree (56 points) and 88-year-old Joe Bifaro (45 points). Crabtree, playing as an amateur, recorded two closest-to-the-pins and birdied one of them. Bifaro holed out his second shot for an eagle on the par-4 fourth hole and also holed out two other shots from off the green. Dave Franklin also recorded an eagle after driving the par-4 seventh green and sinking a 6-footer. The eagles were the second career for both Bifaro and Franklin.

Tim Siragusa was the B Flight winner while Bifaro was the C Flight winner on the first tiebreaker hole with his eagle over Phil Maslak. The low round recorded by a Senior was turned in by Ron Szach. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Jim Ellman Sr.

Closest to the pin were: Bob Kujawa (No. 2), Crabtree (Nos. 6 and 11) and Gawronski (No. 17). Winners of the Steeplechase were Mike Willoughby: (A Flight), Tom Sacilowski (B) and John Waterman (C).

This week the league will hold its 11th annual “Commissioner’s Cup” at Chautauqua Golf Club. The event honors the life and memory of league Commissioner Bruce “Java” Chrabasz.
