FREDONIA — The Fredonia State hockey team opens its season this weekend, hosting Potsdam on Friday and Saturday in a pair of nonconference games between the two SUNYAC squads.
One again, head coach Jeff Meredith will be behind the bench. The 2025-26 season will be his 38th year at the helm, making him the dean of all current SUNYAC men’s hockey coaches.
Meredith has coached the Blue Devils in all but their inaugural season. Joining him will be first-year assistant Griffin Green, who joins the Blue Devils after finishing his collegiate playing career at Nazareth University.
The Devils are coming off a 7-18 season. They went 5-9 in the SUNYAC, and are looking to return to the post season after a two-year absence.
The team returns a solid core, which includes Fredonia High School graduate Luke Morris. In his freshman campaign, he scored seven goals and had seven assists. Morris played his junior hockey for the Amarillo Wranglers of the NAHL.
Other top returnees include goaltender Charles-Anthony Barbeau, captain Ethan Pitzman and assistant captain Garrison Gagnon — all three are seniors. Antoine St. Onge, a junior, will also serve as an assistant captain. The team also features eight freshmen.
Game times are 7 p.m. today and 4 p.m. Saturday.
