Fredonia/Westfield takes 2nd at Sunset Stampede

IRVING — Maple Grove senior Ethan Verbosky finished fourth overall at the Sunset Stampede, leading the Red Dragons boys cross country team to first place in Division 2.

The Red Dragons posted a team score of 44 with four runners placing inside the top 10. Verbosky (16:12.34), Ty Kraft (16:43.60), Jacob Lewis (16:44.24) and Owen Erlandson (17:05.19) led the way to keep the Red Dragons ahead of Fredonia (64), Eden (102), Franklinville/Ellicottville (143) and Southwestern (144).

Fredonia’s second-place finish was championed by Trenton Krenzer (17:01.51) in 9th place, while Pietro Cabitza (17:15.41) took 11th, Jimmy Fagan (17:23.99) was 12th and Solomon McKnatt (17:44.02) earned 14th.

Southwestern’s Ethan Lohnes (17:51.18) placed 17th, while Frewsburg’s Chaos Hedges (18:10.72) was right behind him.

Southwestern’s Emma Lewis was the top overall female finisher with a blazing time of 17:38.30, championing the Trojans to first place in Division 2.

The Trojans (60), held off Silver Creek/Forestville/Dunkirk (85) and Maple Grove (89) in the top 3, while Frewsburg placed (139) 5th and Fredonia (143) 6th.

Helping Lewis and the Trojans were Lillian Weikel (20:47.66) in 7th, Tryniti Card (21:22.09) in 14th and Mackenzie Swafford (21:25.03) in 15th.

Leah Mays (20:05.96) finished second in Division 2 for the Black Knights, Hannan Mohamad Narvaez (20:06.87) took 3rd, Emma Golembieski (21:13.23) earned 12th and Leona Crane (21:25.32) took 16th.

Maple Grove didn’t crack the top 10, but Evalyn Fessel, Lily Elliss, Mae Benedetto and Lily Bohall all placed in the top 25.

Fredonia’s Meredith Lendt (20:41.10) took 6th and Frewsburg’s Jadyn Trocki (21:01.63) placed 9th.
