Lendt 2nd, Krenzer 10th at CCAA Championships

BEMUS POINT — Ethan Verbosky’s first-place run led Maple Grove to the boys team title at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Cross Country Championships on Friday at Bemus Point Golf Course.
Southwestern’s Emma Lewis won the girls individual crown while Clymer/Sherman/Panama took the team title.
In the boys race, Verbosky finished in 16:12.75, nearly 17 seconds faster than second-place Noah Klahn of West Valley, as the Red Dragons combined for 45 points as a team. Other Maple Grove scorers were seventh-place Ty Kraft (16:56.84), 11th-place Jacob Lewis (17:16.30), 14th-place Owen Erlandson (17:40.17) and 16th-place Liam Price (17:58.75).
Lewis cruised to the girls title with a time of 18:30.34, easily more than a minute faster than second-place Meredith Lendt of Fredonia/Westfield. Clymer/Sherman/Panama combined for 77 points as a team, led by fourth-place Savannah Whitney in 19:58.26. Riley Johnson was sixth (20:25.04), Grace Cooke was 11th (20:33.89), Caitlyn Kriner was 31st (22:09.23) and Brooke Warner was 38th (22:24.17).
Jamestown finished second as a team with 61 points. The Red & Green’s five scorers were: third-place Finn Caswell (16:43.01), fourth-place Wyatt Olmstead (16:43.34), sixth-place Thomas Kathman (16:48.66), 28th-place Caleb Johnson (18:26.58) and 33rd-place Hudson Himes (18:43.27).

Maple Grove’s girls were second with 92 points. For the Red Dragons, Lily Elliss was 13th (21:09), Evalyn Fessel was 14th (21:10.57), Mae Benedetto was 26th (21:45.29), Laine Pillittieri was 27th (21:56.13) and Lily Bohall was 29th (22:02.56).
Fredonia/Westfield was third in the boys race with 72 points. Trenton Krenzer was 10th (17:10.63), Pietro Cabitza was 13th (17:39.34), Jimmy Fagan was 15th (17:44.39), Solomon McKnatt was 19th (18:09.79) and Nathan Keefe was 21st (18:14.58).
In the girls race, Silver Creek/Dunkirk/Forestville was third with 94 points. Hanah Mohamad Narvaez was eighth (20:27.76), Leah Mays was ninth (20:28.37), Emma Golembieski was 12th (20:58.80), Leona Crane was 19th (21:25.05) and Lilly Shaw was 59th (23:50.87).
Boys top-10 finishers who were not on top-three teams included: West Valley’s Klahn in second (16:29.41), fifth-place Grant Cornell of Franklinville/Ellicottville (16:47.86), eighth-place Christopher Phelps of Clymer/Sherman/Panama (17:01.50), ninth-place Nolan Wilczewski of Allegany-Limestone (17:01.61) and 10th-place Trenton Krenzer of Fredonia/Westfield (17:10.63).
Girls top-10 finishers who were not on top-three teams included: second-place Lendt of Fredonia/Westfield (19:49.19), third-place Olivia Harmony of West Valley (19:51.22), fifth-place London Hamilton of Jamestown (20:11.94), seventh-place Isabella Czekanski of Fredonia/Westfield (20:26.99) and 10th-place Kinley Belleisle of Olean (20:29.20).

The Section VI Championships will take place next Friday at Elma Meadows. The state meet is slated for Saturday, Nov. 15 at Queensbury High School.
