SALAMANCA — Markell Davis scored a touchdown on the opening drive for Fredonia on the road in Salamanca.
The Davis touchdown was the difference until the second quarter and from then on it was all Salamanca as the Warriors cruised to a 44-12 Class C South football victory at Veterans Memorial Park on Thursday.
The Warriors (5-2, 4-2) took the lead at the two-minute warning when they converted on a two-point conversion, but there was still much to do in the half.
After recovering an onside kick, Salamanca immediately picked up a huge 40-yard rush by Conner Seeley. He then was rewarded for his big rush with a 1-yard touchdown that was followed by another 2-point conversion that gave Salamanca a 16-6 lead at half.
Salamanca picked right up where it left off in the second half, scoring on the opening drive which culminated with Quinten Brown reaching paydirt from two yards out.
Fredonia (1-6, 1-6) needed a big response, but a deep ball in desperation found the arms of Payton Bradley for an interception. Salamanca cashed in on the turnover with a 30-yard rushing touchdown by Brown and took a 31-6 lead.
Fredonia struck back a little too late in the fourth quarter when Davis rushed for his second score of the game, this time for 46 yards.
Bradley and Cruz Pennell added the final two touchdowns for Salamanca and moved back into No. 4 in the division.
