Southwestern’s Lewis third at Alden Invitational
ALDEN — Area cross-country runners performed well in their respective races at the Alden Invitational on Saturday, highlighted by a third-place finish for Southwestern’s Emma Lewis, a fourth place by Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s Savannah Whitney and a fifth place by Jamestown’s Clevon Wofford.
Lewis toured the course in the Gold Varsity Girls Division in 18:22.43. Melia Kupchanko of Williamsville North was first in 17.23.98. Other local finishers in the top 25 in that division were Silver Creek/Dunkirk/Forestville’s Leah Mays (18th, 19:44.92) and teammate Hanan Mohamad Navarez (20th, 19:47.14). Jamestown’s London Hamilton was 23rd (19:51.54).
The team winner was Victor with 84 points. Silver Creek/Dunkirk/Forestville was ninth with 231 and Jamestown was 13th with 284.
Whitney’s time in the Blue Varsity Girls Division was 19:36.50, less than a minute behind first-place winner Reiley Pierce of East Aurora, who posted an 18:44.74. Other local runners in the top 25 in that division were Lillian Weikel of Southwestern (12th, 20:57.49); Riley Johnson of Clymer/Sherman/Panama (15th, 21:05.93); Trinity Card of Southwestern (19th, 21:29.50); Mackenzie Swafford of Southwestern (21st, 21:34.16); Kadence Durow of Randolph (22nd, 21:38.69); and Gracyn Rowland of Randolph (24th, 21:42.91).
The team winner was East Aurora with 29 points. Southwestern was third with 101, Randolph was seventh with 160 and Franklinville/Ellicottville was eighth with 167.
Wofford’s time in the Gold Varsity Boys Division was 16:00.04, a little more than 28 seconds behind winner Carson Zuba of Lancaster (15:28.63). Other locals in the top 25 in that division were Jamestown’s Wyatt Olmstead (11th, 16:20.11), Finn Caswell (15th,16:39.15) and Thomas Kathman (17th, 16:40.08).
The team winner was West Seneca with 88 points. Jamestown was third with 130 and Silver Creek/Dunkirk/Forestville was 20th with 568.
Finally, in the Blue Varsity Boys Division, Grant Cornell of Franklinville/Ellicottville was the top local finisher, posting a 16:12.22, good for eighth place. The winner was Evan Feider of Alden (16:13.91). Other local runners in the top 25 in that division were Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s Christopher Phelps (15th, 16:45.05), Finn Fadale (21st, 16:55.61) and Flynn Fadale (25th, 17:26.47).
The team winner was East Aurora with 39 points. Clymer/Sherman/Panama was third with 110 and Franklinville/Ellicottville was seventh with 186.
