Tofil leads Wednesday Travel League with 77 at Cable Hollow GC
RUSSELL, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League held its annual “Halloween Spooktacular” at Cable Hollow Golf Course.
Ed Tofil earned his seventh tour victory of the season with the low round of 77. Jeff Nelson was second with 83. Ken Kaus and Tom Sacilowski tied for third with 86s. Tofil led the front nine with an even-par 36 and Nelson led the back nine with 39.
The winner of the “Bee” Flight was Phil Hopkins. The low round by a senior was shot by Jack Hood, who also won for best costume. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was John Waterman, who with a birdie on the 18th hole, joined Ed Tofil as the only golfers to record 300 career birdies.
Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Dave Franklin (Nos. 2, 10), Tofil (Nos. 3, 4, 5, 9) and Sacilowski (No. 12); B Flight — Hood (No. 1), Waterman (Nos. 8, 18), Hopkins (No. 9), Don Kujawa (No. 11), Jeff Marsowicz (No. 12) and Tom Destro (No. 15).
Closest to the pin were: Franklin (No. 2), Tofil (No. 5), Kujawa (No. 11), Hopkins (No. 13) and Joe Michalski (No. 17). Winners of the Steeplechase were: Michalski in A Flight and Hopkins in B Flight.
Top point winners were: Tofil (60), Franklin (40), and Hopkins and Kujawa (30 apiece). Season points leaders (through 28 events): 1. Josh Hilliker (735), 2. Tofil (516), 3. Franklin (449), 4. Robert Calph (384), 5. Waterman (372), 6. Sacilowski (354), 7. Hopkins (289), 8. Dave Wallace (244), 9. Michalski (239), 10. Nelson (230).
This week the league returns to Cable Hollow for a 10 a.m. start. Interested golfers are asked to be signed up by noon Monday.
