Eagles fly to Highmark, down Bulls 30-13 in ‘C’

BARKER — Asher Olson caught five passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns as Class C South No. 2 Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton beat Class C North No. 1 Barker/Royalton-Hartland 30-13 in a Class C semifinal.
Olson opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown catch from Brayden Gibbs, but the Bulls tied the game on a 59-yard run by Carter Dersarkissian.
The Eagles took the lead for good in the second quarter on a 9-yard run by Clay Smith.
After halftime, Olson caught an 81-yard touchdown from Gibbs and then the Eagles scored on a safety when the Bulls snapped the ball over their punter’s head and out of the end zone.
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton’s Thandon Bensink scored the final touchdown on a 22-yard run.

Bensink finished with 22 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown while Gibbs completed 9 of 17 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively for the Eagles, Trent Houser was in on 14 tackles and forced a fumble; Aiden Woodis had five tackles and an interception; Bensink was in on nine tackles; and Smith had five tackles, including two for a loss, and a sack.
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton will take on Southwestern/Frewsburg in the 6 p.m. championship game Thursday at Highmark Stadium. In their first meeting this year, the Trojans beat the Eagles 45-0 on Oct. 3.
