Four other area teams fall in semifinals
Four local girls volleyball teams saw their seasons end in Section VI semifinals Monday evening.
In Class AAA, No. 1 Lancaster beat No. 4 Jamestown 25-10, 25-15, 25-12. The Legends will take on No. 3 Lockport in the final at noon Saturday at Cheektowaga High School.
In Class B1, No. 1 Depew came from behind twice to beat No. 4 Fredonia 16-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-16, 15-12. The Wildcats will take on No. 2 Olean in the final at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cheektowaga High School.
In one Class C semifinal, No. 1 Portville handed No. 4 Chautauqua Lake a 25-15, 25-17, 25-15.
For the Panthers, Addie Walker had 34 assists and four digs; Ali Haynes collected 19 kills, and assist, 11 digs and four blocks; Gaitley Maiolo had 14 kills and a dig; Leigha Stives turned in four kills, two aces, a dig and a block; Marissa Carls had three aces and a block; and Mia Rhinehart had an assist and 26 digs.
In the other Class C semifinal, No. 2 Eden beat No. 3 Falconer 25-20, 21-25, 27-25, 21-25, 15-12.
For the Golden Falcons, Kaylee Green had 13 kills and four blocks; Hannah Melquist had 15 kills, 33 digs and two aces; Nylah Sharpe had 37 digs; Reagan Trask handed out 39 assists to go along with 17 digs; Mylie Zaranek turned in 11 kills, 22 digs; and Emily Zaranek collected 22 digs, five kills and three blocks.
The Panthers and Raiders will meet in Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. final at Southwestern.
In Class B2, No. 8 Salamanca topped No. 5 Springville to advance to Wednesday’s 5:30 p.m. final against No. 3 Royalton-Hartland at Cheektowaga High School.
