Frewsburg’s Anelia Pitts takes 25th at state diving
WEBSTER — Frewsburg sophomore Anelia Pitts was seeded 25th in her first appearance at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association 1-meter diving championships and on Friday at the Webster Aquatic Center that’s where she finished.
After 11 rounds of diving, Pitts scored 469.15 points to earn the No. 25 spot at the state championships. The mark to win was set by Section VIII’s Victoria Wang of Manhasset with a whopping total of 579.65 and the final spot on the podium was Jamesville-Dewitt’s Kayla McQuaid with 517.10 in 10th place.
Through three rounds and then five rounds, Pitts found herself as high as 22nd. Then after eight dives she was at 23rd before settling into the 25th spot.
Pitts was the lone CCAA diver, but Section VI as a whole did well grabbing two spots on the podium and another spot inside the top 25. Tori Franke of Niagara Falls placed third with 553.25, Grand Island’s Kayla Rejewski took 9th at 528.65 and Clarence’s Ainslee Graham scored 474.65 for 22nd.
