Frewsburg’s Pitts to compete at state diving championships

WEBSTER — Anelia Pitts will become the third Pitts sibling to compete in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships when she takes to the 1-meter diving board in suburban Rochester this afternoon.

The Frewsburg sophomore is seeded 25th in today’s diving championships with a qualifying score of 469.15, which she established at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Championships last month in Olean. At the Section VI Class C Championships a week later, Pitts recorded a score of 446.75.

Anelia’s older sister, Elayna, finished 13th at last year’s state championships with a score of 423.15. Of course, last year Fredonia senior Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer won the state diving title with a score of 503.50.

Xander Pitts, Anelia and Elayna’s older brother, finished 15th at the 2024 state championships with a score of 394.70 and 31st in 2023 with a score of 154.35 in the preliminary round.

Senior Victoria Wang of Section VIII Manhasset, last year’s runnerup, is the No. 1 seed entering today’s competition with a qualifying score of 579.65. Twelve divers enter this year’s competition with a qualifying score of better than 500 points.

Pitts is the lone Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association swimmer or diver to qualify for the state meet this year.

Doors open at the Webster Aquatic Center at 9 a.m. today with diving warmups slated from 10-11:15 a.m. Swimming preliminaries will also begin at 10 a.m.

The diving championship is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.

On Saturday, doors will once again open at 9 a.m. with swimming competition to begin at 10 a.m.

This is an all-digital ticketed event on the GoFan platform. Interactive mobile tickets will need to be presented at the gate. Screenshots and printed tickets will not be accepted, and cash sales are not available. Kids 5 and under are free, all other attendees must purchase a general admission ticket. On Friday, swimming preliminary races are ticketed separately from diving. All swimming events on Saturday are sold on a single ticket. Doors will open one hour prior to opening ceremonies each day.
