Westfield/Brocton’s Nelson named DPOY in CCAA D3

Audrey Eckwahl finished fifth in Section VI in goals with 35 on the season.

That kind of offensive dominance earned her the distinction of being a unanimous selection for Offensive Player of the Year by Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 coaches.

Eckwahl also had five assists for the Bears and was joined on the league’s First Team by three teammates: Elysse Gruber, Jaden Jimerson and Lyla Salvaggio.

Gruber was Frewsburg’s sophomore goalkeeper, making 120 saves while allowing just 14 goals in 19 games for a 0.72 goals against average. Leading the Bears’ back line that helped Gruber achieve those stats was senior defender Lyla Salvaggio, who also chipped in an assist. Jimerson, a sophomore forward, was second on the team with 11 goals to go along with nine assists.

Westfield/Brocton junior Makayley Nelson was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year after the Wolverines finished second in the league and allowed just 14 goals during division play. Nelson was joined on the First Team by teammates Olivia Wolfe and Sophia Wolfe. Twin seniors, Olivia finished with nine goals and nine assists while Sophia had three goals and six assists.

Dunkirk earned the Team Sportsmanship Award. Marauders junior goalkeeper Celeste Bautista was named to the First Team after making 267 saves in 16 games played.

Silver Creek/Forestville had two girls named to the First Team: Meadow Azzarella and Carilene Sliwa. Both seniors, Azzarella had six goals and seven assists while Sliwa totaled nine goals and seven assists.

Chautauqua Lake was represented on the First Team by senior goalkeeper Lucy Gates, who made 126 saves in 10 games while North Collins was represented by junior Hannah Jasinski, who had seven goals and three assists in 12 games.

Frewsburg was represented on the Second Team by sophomore defender Leah Powell, freshman defender Gabriella Dumaine and junior defender Ava Krofka.

Westfield/Brocton’s Second-Team choices included senior midfielder/forward Avery Swank and senior goalkeeper Colie Bundy.

Silver Creek/Forestville was represented on the Second Team by sophomore midfielder/forward Abby Cook and junior defender Kyla Ziegler.

Chautauqua Lake junior defender Kaylee Tarr and junior striker Avery Cannon were joined on the Second Team by North Collins junior forward/midfielder James Pisa and senior defender Brooke Gabel, and Dunkirk freshman forward Chianti Lopez.

Honorable-mention choices included: Frewsburg’s Ellie Cappa and Charlie Lombardo, Westfield/Brocton’s Addison Emery and Haylee Carlton, Silver Creek/Forestville’s Eliza Mahoney and Kaydence Ziolkowski, Chautauqua Lake’s Elianna Ludwig and Kendra Tarr, North Collins’ Lily Montaldi, and Dunkirk’s Kamdyn Earing.

Individual Sportsmanship Award winners included: Frewsburg’s Riley Hawley, Westfield/Brocton’s Carlton, Silver Creek/Forestville’s Emily Bain, Chautauqua Lake’s Skye Gibbons, North Collins’ Alexis Bourkney and Dunkirk’s Ava Casey.
