Steelers hockey beats Jamestown
FREDONIA — The Dunkirk/Fredonia Steelers varsity hockey team earned their first win of the season as they shutout visiting Jamestown 7-0 at Steele Hall.
The Steelers’ first tally came just 19 seconds into the first period when David Girdlestone Jr. scored unassisted to take the early 1-0 lead. Dunkirk/Fredonia picked up goals by Marcus Crane, assisted by Max Hazelton; Caleb Kimmerly, unassisted; and Hazelton, unassisted, in the second period to stretch the lead to 4-0.
In the third, Steelers goals were recorded by: Hazelton, assisted by Girdlestone, and two from Landon Trippi, assisted by Alex Madurski and Girdlestone.
Starting goalie Braiden Truby turned away all 20 shots he faced, earning his first shutout of the season. Outstanding efforts by the defensive core helped to secure a clean sheet for Truby on the night.
The Steelers currently stand at 1-1 overall in the Western New York High School Club Hockey League’s White Division. The Steelers’ next game is Tuesday today, when they host Eden/Lake Shore/Pioneer/Springville at 6:30 p.m. inside Steele Hall.
