ANGOLA — The Fredonia boys basketball team began the season on the right foot, posting a 66-44 nonleague victory over Lake Shore on Wednesday evening.

RJ Koopman paced the Hillbillies with a double-double, scoring 14 points with 10 assists, five boards and three steals. Colin Luce scored a team-high 21 points with seven boards, three steals and two assists, Donovan Dowdy provided 16 points, six boards, two assists, a steal and a block, Graham Putney had 10 points, four boards and three assists and Shane Ferguson made three steals.

“It’s nice being back in the gym,” said Fredonia head coach Nick Bertrando. “It’s exciting to get back after it. It’s a quick turnaround for us, we’ve got another game on Friday night at the college. We’ll enjoy it tonight and get back to it against the Cheektowaga Chargers.”

Lake Shore falls to 0-1 with the defeat and is back in action on Friday when it hosts St. Francis. The Hillbillies (1-0, 0-0) take on Cheektowaga that same night at SUNY Fredonia.

Starting at $3.50/week.
