Local runner Daryl Brautigam of Fredonia won the silver medal in his age group at the USA Track & Field National Master’s Half-Marathon Championships held on December 14 in Spicewood, Texas. Brautigam was second in the 70-74 age category with a time of 1:42:36.
“The course was quite hilly,” Brautigam said. “It consisted of eight laps down and then up a long hill with some minimal flat areas in between.”
Brautigam said he was very pleased by the result.
“Almost all of the other runners in every age category were elite Division 1 college runners who have continued to train,” Brautigam said. “I do not fit that mold.”
Brautigam has been coached and encouraged by his friend John Zuroski of Bemus Point, who also helps coach Maple Grove cross-country teams.
