The victory improved the Wolverines to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the league in head coach Kyle Petersen’s first year on the bench.

“I knew we would be competitive. They’ve just kind of bought into my system,” Petersen said about the undefeated start to the season. “Those girls played a lot of basketball. It’s experience. I have five seniors and they handle pressure.”

The Red Dragons (6-4, 2-3) took a one-point lead into halftime as Morgan Caldwell — who led all scorers with 20 points — hit a 3-pointer from inside of half-court.

But Westfield outscored Maple Grove 24-16 in the second half for the win.

“We resettled. I told them the next four minutes they had to come out hot,” Petersen said. “They’ve been in that position before. They refused to lose. They fought tooth and nail for the final two quarters.”

Nahlia Douglas finished with 15 points and eight rebounds; Weingart had 15 points and four assists; Mackenzie Schumaker had six rebounds and four assists; Sophia Wolfe had four assists; and Maddie Burgess had three assists off the bench for the Wolverines.

Caldwell pulled down nine rebounds while Bry Cornell had 8 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Red Dragons.

FALCONER — Kai Wojewoda-Ko scored 17 points to lead Allegany-Limestone past Falconer 48-36 in Division 1 action.

The Gators (6-3, 2-2) received 11 points each from Maddie Kahm and Mya Hayes.

Falconer (5-6, 3-2) was led by Sydnee Snow with 13 points, three steals and three blocks; Addison Calimeri added 10 points; Ellyson Baglia collected 10 rebounds; and Alexis Smith had four blocked shots and had three steals.
