Brocton boys bowling wins first sectional title

CHEEKTOWAGA — Brocton is a Section VI champion in boys bowling for the first time in program history.

The Bulldogs rolled a six-game series of 875-878-957-890-878-853-5,331 to beat Clymer/Sherman by 87 pins during the Section VI Small School championships Tuesday at Airport Lanes.

Allen Blattenberg’s 158-156-225-164-212-171-1,086 led Brocton while Matthew Olson rolled a 186-203-186-168-171-170-1,084 and Chris Furman had a 180-193-174-188-190-155-1,080. The final three Bulldogs bowlers were: Peter Bloss (187-175-142-211-162-159-1,036), Jackson Burns (164-134-205-159-143-176-981) and Nico Blattenberg (142-151-167-124-142-177-903).

The lowest score in each game was dropped for the team.

Clymer/Sherman spun an 884-701-847-924-861-1,027-5244. Ashton Hosier led the Wolves with a 161-154-158-205-136-265-1,079, followed by Dayton Hosier (147-148-172-218-162-211-1,058), Max White (191-131-222-154-160-177-1,035), Brett Rater (198-139-112-190-202-176-1,017), Nicholas Potocki (187-123-135-125-168-192-930) and Declan Kinney (129-129-160-157-169-182-926).

Falconer finished third in Class D with a 916-920-909-791-827-876-5,239. Westfield was fourth with a 718-840-753-796-804-740-4,651. Seth Zielinski paced the Wolverines with a 148-163-180-188-170-245-1,094, followed by Tahner Stow (192-223-185-191-172-117-1,080), Cole Tenamore (137-210-135-155-181-136-954), Griffin Paternosh (127-138-119-115-152-131-782), Tyler Jaynes (114-93-93-147-129-111-687) and Aiden Simpson (93-106-134-97-125-95-650).

Ellicottville was seventh with a 729-707-837-731-726-742-4,472. Forestville finished eighth in Class D with a 668-667-638-678-672-688-4,011. The Hornets’ top bowler was Troy Muck with a 171-161-122-180-146-155-935, followed by Tucker Merritt (144-142-157-146-183-143-915), Owen Ferry (128-149-148-121-148-187-881), Alexander Lucas (142-151-133-135-115-123-799) and Jon Hill (83-64-78-96-80-80-481).

Dunkirk was the top local finisher in Class C with a seventh-place finish. The Marauders tossed a 737-864-922-895-810-901-5,129. Hans Lemiszko was Dunkirk’s top bowler with a 177-193-190-218-170-204-1,152, followed by Michael Glowniak (155-194-185-193-135-233-1,095), Kameron Keppel (124-141-188-162-203-167-985), Sean Kelly (125-162-168-147-170-176-948), Zakary Clark (156-156-158-175-132-117-894) and Karper Keppel (118-159-191-118-115-121-822).

Fredonia was eighth with a 913-891-831-863-818-811-5,127. Luka Paoletta led the Hillbillies with a 203-193-168-183-217-168-1,132, followed by Bradley Berkshire (149-189-214-180-129-182-1,043), Robert Harrington (245-160-144-142-143-176-1,010), Kaden Paoletta (173-159-123-175-163-136-929), Donovan Wilson (131-174-158-163-149-775) and Wyatt Tresler (143-175-146-167-132-763). Thomas Piede tossed a 159 in place of Wilson’s third game and a 135 in place of Tresler’s sixth game.

Frewsburg/Southwestern placed ninth with an 850-845-816-812-845-876-5,044. The top score for the Bears was Chase Lombardo’s 156-161-193-165-180-210-1,065, followed by Ethan Lohnes (179-148-152-126-187-164-956), Tripp Swartz (184-175-178-127-171-105-940), Edwin Clover (158-202-143-142-114-178-937), Julian Cardone (110-137-150-184-141-161-883) and Patrick Tyler (173-159-113-194-166-163-968).

Salamanca took 13th in Class C with its 687-620-648-782-795-702-4,234. Cayden Lafferty’s 175-147-162-169-209-150-1,012 led the Warriors, followed by Andrew McCormick Jr. (123-110-137-164-174-134-842), Ryan Caswell (160-118-121-145-114-183-841), Robert Chamberlin (127-91-121-128-148-136-751), Michael Light (102-117-96-176-115-99-705) and Brock Johnson (90-128-107-118-149-93-685).

Maryvale won the Class C title for its 11th championship all-time. The Flyers spun a 916-946-921-1,031-983-979-5,776 to beat Depew by 38 pins.

The top six pool bowlers who will represent Section VI Division 2 at states are: Cleveland Hill’s Kevin Brunner, Depew’s Elijah Shute, Hinsdale’s Jackson Jones, Maryvale’s Ben Aughtry, JFK’s Mason Burgstahler, Cheektowaga’s Carter Ballard.

On Monday, Lancaster won the Division 1 and Class A titles. It was the Legends’ fifth sectional crown. Niagara Wheatfield won the Class B crown for its third title.

The Division 1 pool bowlers going to states are: Grand Island’s John Coram, Amherst’s Jonathan Kramer, West Seneca’s Jacob Zajac, West Seneca’s Josh Zajac, Lockport’s Nicholas Grabowski and Orchard Park’s Kyler Penn.
