First BRWS tryout is Sunday in Falconer
The 13U Babe Ruth World Series is returning to Jamestown and will be hosted at historic Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park from Aug. 14-22.
The Babe Ruth World Series committee recently announced that Jamestown’s Joseph B. Crawford has been selected as manager of the host.
Crawford and his coaching staff are currently seeking 10-15 players from the surrounding areas to represent Jamestown on the World Series stage. Player roles being evaluated include pitcher-only, position players, two-way players, defensive specialists and speed-based players.
Tryouts will be held on the following dates: Sunday, Feb. 15; Sunday, Feb. 22; and Sunday, March 1 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Gold Star Athletics, 1765 Lindquist Drive, Falconer.
Players are strongly encouraged to attend all three tryout dates.
To try out, players must be born between May 1, 2012 and April 30, 2014, and reside or attend school in one of the following districts: Jamestown, Falconer, Frewsburg, Lakewood, Cassadaga, Chautauqua Lake, Bemus Point, Westfield, Sherman, Panama, Ripley, Brocton, Fredonia, Dunkirk, Silver Creek, Forestville, Gowanda, Randolph, Clymer, Pine Valley, Little Valley, Franklinville, Salamanca, Ellicottville or Warren, Pennsylvania.
Selected players will be required to participate in the Jamestown Babe Ruth League. Once the roster is announced, the team will practice multiple times per week throughout the spring and summer. The program plans to compete in tournaments, pickup games and scrimmages in preparation for the World Series.
