Krenzer has pair of top-10 finishes at swimming sectionals

BUFFALO — The Frewsburg/Southwestern/Jamestown/Falconer boys swimming and diving team won a pair of relay titles and another two individual titles at the Section VI championships at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center on Thursday.

The Bears won the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays with times of 1:28.12 and 3:16.38, narrowly edging out Williamsville South and Lockport, respectively.

Racing in the 200 relay for the Bears were Landon Frederes, Mike Rambacher, Grady Moore and Miles Moore. Then, the 400 relay swapped out Rambacher for Caleb Webster to earn a second team title with another New York state-qualifying time.

Frederes claimed an individual title for the Bears in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.11, beating Niagara Wheatfield’s Dylan Idzik with a time of 55.14. Miles Moore joined him in the top 10 at sixth with a time of 58.91.

Frederes just missed out on a state-qualifying time in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.02 to take fourth place, just short of Frontier’s Parker Ferguson with 1:47.42 in third. Alden’s Riley Eggink won the event with a 1:46.74. Fredonia/Dunkirk/Forestville’s Trenton Krenzer placed eighth in the race with a time of 1:50.75.

Grady Moore won another individual title for the Bears with a personal best time in the 50-yard freestyle at 21.52. The event featured four other New York state-qualifying times, including Panama/Clymer/Sherman’s Kody Howard with a personal best in second place at 21.70 ahead of Sweet Home’s Finn Crowther 21.91.

Howard also had a New York state-qualifying time in second place of the 100-yard freestyle with a personal best of 48.21. The title was won by Williamsville East’s Max Anderson at 46.05, while Krenzer cracked the top 10 for the Hillbillies again with a personal best of 49.41 for seventh place.

Panama/Clymer/Sherman had another top 10 finish in the 200-yard individual medley with Evan Conklin racing to a time of 2:14.46, while the event was won by Tonawanda’s Jack Shepler at 2:01.71.

Levi Overend also had a top-10 finish for the Bears in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.04 for eighth and Tonawanda’s Shepler claimed another title with a winning time of 5:02.91.
