Dunkirk boys are No. 3 in Class A1, Fredonia is No. 4 in A2

The Section VI boys basketball playoffs will get underway today and several local teams have fairly high seeds in their respective brackets.

The highest seed locally comes in the six-team Class D bracket where Clymer is No. 1 and will not play until its semifinal Monday, March 2 at Jamestown Community College.

No. 2 Sherman will also have a bye into those same semifinals at JCC. Those two teams will be awaiting the winners of Tuesday, Feb. 24 quarterfinals: No. 5 Franklinville will travel to No. 4 Panama while No. 6 Pine Valley will travel to No. 3 Forestville.

The Class D final will take place at Jamestown Community College on Saturday, March 7.

In Class AAA, No. 2 Jamestown has a bye into the Thursday, Feb. 26 semifinals at Buffalo State University where the Red & Green will take on No. 3 Niagara Falls.

The other Class AAA semifinal will feature No. 1 Health Sciences and No. 4 Lancaster. The Class AAA final will be back at Buffalo State University on Friday, March 6.

In Class A1, No. 3 Dunkirk will host a Wednesday, Feb. 25 quarterfinal against the winner of a Saturday, Feb. 21 prequarterfinal between No. 11 Kenmore East and No. 6 Lewiston-Porter.

The Class A1 semifinals are Friday, Feb. 27 at Buffalo State University and the final is Thursday, March 5.

In Class A2, No. 4 Fredonia will host a Wednesday, Feb. 25 quarterfinal, but the Hillbillies will await the results of two rounds before knowing who they will play. No. 13 Lackawanna will travel to No. 12 Tonawanda for a qualifier this evening and the winner will travel to No. 5 City Honors on Saturday.

The Class A2 semifinals are Saturday, Feb. 28 at Buffalo State University while the final is Thursday, March 5.

In Class B1, No. 9 Southwestern and No. 7 Salamanca will be the first local teams to play in the postseason. On Friday, the ninth-seeded Trojans will travel to the Grabiarz School of Excellence to take on No. 8 Riverside in a prequarterfinal while the seventh-seeded Warriors will host No. 10 JFK that same evening.

If Southwestern wins, the Trojans will return to the Grabiarz School on Tuesday for a quarterfinal matchup with No. 1 Middle Early College. If Salamanca wins, the Warriors will visit No. 2 Olmsted on Tuesday.

The Class B1 semifinals are Saturday, Feb. 28 at Fredonia State University, which will also host the Wednesday, March 4 final.

In Class B2 quarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 24, No. 7 Falconer will visit No. 2 Akron while No. 3 Randolph will host No. 6 Eden.

Class B2 semifinals are Sunday, March 1 at Fredonia State University, which will also host the Wednesday, March 4 final.

Class C features a full 16-team bracket. In qualifiers Friday, No. 13 Cassadaga Valley will travel to No. 12 Barker, No. 15 North Collins will visit No. 10 Chautauqua Lake and No. 14 Silver Creek will visit No. 11 Maple Grove.

In prequarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 24, No. 5 Cattaraugus-Little Valley will host the Cassadaga Valley/Barker winner, No. 7 Frewsburg will host the North Collins/Chautauqua Lake winner and No. 6 Ellicottville will host the Silver Creek/Maple Grove winner.

No. 4 Westfield and No. 3 Gowanda will host quarterfinals Thursday, Feb. 26. The Class C semifinals are Tuesday, March 3 at Jamestown Community College, which will also host the final Saturday, March 7.

There are no local teams in Class AA, where Orchard Park is the No. 1 seed. The Class AA final will be Thursday, March 5 at Buffalo State University.
