Silver Creek/Forestville baseball returns with 13-1 win over Eagles

OBSERVER Photo by Jon Neubauer Silver Creek/Forestville celebrated two firsts in Monday’s 13-1 victory over North Collins. Head coach Chris Van Cheri earned his first win in charge of the program and starting pitcher Cody Neubauer earned his first varsity win.

NORTH COLLINS — Cody Neubauer went 2 for 4 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored while also tossing five innings of three-hit, one-run ball with eight strikeouts and just one walk as Silver Creek/Forestville returned to varsity baseball competition with a 13-1 nonleague victory over North Collins in Chris VanCheri’s debut as head coach.

The Black Knights led 2-0 through the first three innings before scoring six runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth.

Manny Sanchez went 2 for 3 with three runs scored; Noah Hodkin had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI; Ryan Skinner and Dom Anders each had a hit and drove in a pair of runs; and Hunter Anderson had a hit and three RBIs for Silver Creek/Forestville (1-0).

Walter Ebersole singled and scored the lone run for the Eagles (0-1).

MAPLE GROVE PULLS PAST CARDINALS

RANDOLPH — Ty Kraft’s bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning sent Maple Grove past Randolph 5-4 in nonleague baseball Monday at Weeden Park.

Ezekiel Padd had two hits, including a double; Gavin Darr doubled; and Liam Price singled, drove in a run and scored a run for the Red Dragons (1-1).

Darr tossed 4 1/3 innings of two-hit ball, allowing three runs while striking out six and walking two. Aiden Dahlberg threw the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run while striking out four.

For the Cardinals (0-1), Zachary Lindquist had two hits, including a double; Gavin Senn doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; and Kevin McElwain singled and drove in a pair of runs. Aidan Taylor struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings on the mound.

EAGLES BLANK PINE VALLEY

ELLICOTTVILLE — Ellicottville plated six runs in the third inning and limited Pine Valley to just two hits en route to a 9-0 nonleague victory.

Rylan Benjamin led the Eagles, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Carson Mendell scored twice and knocked in a run; Reed Nazareth added an RBI; and Dominic Tirado crossed home twice. AJ Myers picked up the win on the mound without giving up a hit in three innings of work and striking out eight batters while walking five.

Liam Bradigan and Dominick Austin each had a hit for Pine Valley and Caden Herman walked three times. Cameron Howard took the loss for the Panthers in just his one inning of work.

WARRIORS RALLY PAST WOLFPACK

SALAMANCA — Conner Seeley’s third-inning inside-the-park home run started off a five-run inning as Salamanca beat Clymer/Sherman/Panama 7-4.

The four other runs in the third inning scored on errors for the Warriors (1-1). In the fifth inning, Ethan Baxter-Drain scored when Payton Bradley was hit by a pitch and Wyatt Bialaszewski scored on Calum Farnum’s RBI fielder’s choice.

For the Wolfpack (0-2), Gavin Burchanowski opened the game with a single and later scored on a Mason Groters RBI single. After a run scored on an error in the seventh, Max White hit a two-run double.

Farnum allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four on the mound for Salamanca.

LEGENDS SINK PANTHERS

GOWANDA — Carter Capozzi, Drew Kota, Kyan Austin and Nick Smuda each singled in Gowanda’s 6-1 nonleague loss to Lancaster.

Aiden Geiger drove in the lone run for the Panthers after Seth Geiger walked in the fifth inning.

The Legends had RBI singles in the third and fourth innings before scoring on a sacrifice fly and a passed ball. A two-run home run in the sixth inning plated the final runs.

TROJANS FALL BEHIND WILDCATS

DEPEW — Southwestern fell behind 6-0 early and lost 6-4 at nonleague Depew.

In the top of the fourth inning, George Marshall walked and Oscar Harris followed with a two-run home run to make it 6-2.

In the sixth, Cooper Charles and Wilson Genareo walked, stole second and third, and scored on Harris’ one-out, two-run single. The Trojans eventually loaded the bases, but the Wildcats got out of the inning with an infield grounder and a strikeout.

In addition to Harris’ two hits, Lucas Genareo had a double and Gavin Anderson singled. Charles tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out two.

FREDONIA RALLIES PAST PIONEER

FREDONIA — Matt Cowan led off with a walk and scored the eventual winning run on a Brady Crawford RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning as Fredonia beat Pioneer 13-5 in nonleague action.

The Hillbillies (1-0) led 3-1 after three innings. Cowan led off the game with a triple and scored on an overthrow, Jack Frame walked and later scored on a Cowan sacrifice fly in the second inning, and Rocco Muscarella singled, stole second and scored on a Frame groundout in the third inning.

Pioneer (0-1) took a 5-3 lead with four runs in the top of the fourth inning.

In Fredonia’s fifth, Muscarella walked and Luke Paoletta singled before both scored on Frame’s two-out, two-run single.

After Cowan scored the go-ahead run in the sixth, the Hillbillies added seven more runs. Colin Luce and Muscarella hit RBI singles, three runs scored on wild pitches, and Ryan Johnson drew a bases-loaded walk.

Muscarella, a sophomore making his first varsity start, went 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Frame, another sophomore in his first varsity start, singled, drove in three and scored twice.

Cowan threw 3 1/3 innings, striking out four and picking off a pair of baserunners. Paul Tabone got two outs in the fourth with a strikeout and a pickoff. Luce earned the win with two innings of relief, striking out three.
