TROY — Despite losing four seniors to graduation from last year’s state championship team, the Frewsburg Bears have asked one question this season in their pursuit of another title: Why not?
They are now one win away from making that a valid inquiry.
Junior Jadyn Trocki had 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals, and her Bears teammates were the story in the second half as the Section VI champions beat Delaware Academy 57-30 in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C semifinals Friday morning at Hudson Valley Community College.
“We worked all year to get here,” Abery Harvey, Frewsburg’s lone senior, said postgame, “so it feels good to have the hard work pay off.”
“We’re all super close, these are like my best friends,” Trocki added. “It’s just so fun to go back with them.”

Frewsburg will look for its second straight state title at 6 p.m. today when they take on Section II’s Greenwich back inside the McDonough Sports Complex. The Witches beat Section I’s Tuckahoe 56-54 in Friday’s second semifinal.
“There are not many teams that get to come back to states at all. Three times in a row, to make it back to back to the final is pretty rare,” Frewsburg head coach Sierra Beaver said. “Nobody at the beginning of the year … thought this was going to be a thing and here we are. Like the shirts say, ‘Why not?'”
It’s likely Greenwich will prove to be a more difficult opponent for the Bears than the Bulldogs were Friday.
Frewsburg led 18-4 after the first quarter and 32-11 at halftime on the strength of 16 points from Trocki while holding Delaware Academy to just 4-of-23 shooting from the field.
“My teammates did a really good job of finding me when I was open, which allowed me to get a lot of shots early on,” Trocki said. “We ran the floor well and we just came out with a lot of energy. We’ve been here before … I think that helped us a lot.”

The Bulldogs did a better job of taking away Trocki in the second half, but the four other Bears on the floor still outscored Delaware Academy 21-19 over the final 16 minutes.
“We always play for each other, pass to each other, find each other,” Harvey said. “If Jadyn’s not there, it’s next person up. We’re good at that.”
Sophomore Jaden Jimerson and Harvey opened the third quarter on their own 7-1 run to give Frewsburg its biggest lead of the game to that point, 38-12.
“Last year, (Jaden) was kind of here as a supporter of her sisters,” Beaver said, referencing Taytum and Ava Jimerson from the 2025 squad. “To be able to have that other player outside of Jadyn that we can get the ball to … she’s just next-level IQ as far as being able to run sets without getting it to Jadyn.”
Bears freshman Presleigh Stelmack scored back-to-back buckets – her only 4 points of the game – during a 10-4 Delaware Academy run that got the Bulldogs’ deficit back under 20, but Harvey, Jimerson and Trocki closed the period on a 9-0 run to make it a 28-point game entering the final eight minutes.
“We tried to double her as much as we could. … We were trying to make somebody else on the floor beat us, but she makes everyone else better,” Delaware Academy head coach Todd Bruce said of Trocki. “Credit to their other players, they stepped up as well.”
Frewsburg freshman Lucy Moore and sophomore Elysse Gruber each added a basket early in the final quarter before Trocki chipped in her final bucket to make it 57-23 before the Bears turned to their bench and began preserving themselves for today’s title game.
“The most points anybody has scored on us since playoffs started is 43,” Beaver said. “Two years ago when we were here, we lost by 3 and allowed 67 points. … We’ve really been focusing on defense. They are working their butts off, they’re flying around, they’re talking and they’re communicating. … Our defense looks great.”
Greenwich will find that out today.
NOTES: Freshman Danielle Ennist had 10 points and five rebounds while junior Lexi Davis had 8 points for Delaware Academy, which shot 11 of 44 from the field, including 4 of 18 from 3-point range, and turned the ball over 17 times. … Harvey finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots while Jimerson added 12 points, four rebounds, four assists for Frewsburg, which shot 27 of 57 from the field, including 2 of 10 from 3-point range, and turned the ball over 16 times. … Jordan Wolfe had 21 points and six rebounds to lead Greenwich past Tuckahoe in the second semifinal. The Witches led 43-34 entering the fourth quarter before the Tigers made it close, thanks to Juliana Manginelli scoring 14 of her team-high 21 points in the final eight minutes for Tuckahoe.
